Ok so i'm planning on getting some new subs for my blazer. I am trying to decide whether I want to get 2 12" rockford punch stage 2's or 1 15"rockford punch stage 3. What do you guys think?? I have a 1000w sony amp that I would use to push them (I know sony's arent the best amps but it will get the job done) For my box I'm just gonna do a simple ported box made out of mdf. So the question is two 12's or one 15???

well i like cleaner bass so i would do the 12s and not the 15 cuz itll be a more muddy bass then the 12s the only reason i got a 12 is because i wanted it to be loud and i knew that alpine had a good reputation for clean bass otherwise i would do two 10s... but if u dont care so much about that then jsut do the 2 12s

I say hogwash that a 15 will be more muddy than a 12. But other than that, go two 12's. You will move more air and probably be louder. Make sure you know how low of an impedance your amp can run bridged and then my guess is you will need two of the dual 2 ohm subs so you end up pushing a 2 ohm load.

Go With The 12's Cause In My Book 15 Are Just A Waste Of Space And You Have To Move A Lot More Air With Them....

it dont matter man. you wont see a great deal of difference. the only difference is that the 2 12's will have more surface area, therefore they will displace more air. but 1 15 will extend lower. i say whatever is cheaper

First of all, in order to properly answer your question, we need a lot more information!!!

What kind of music do you listen to?

Are you planning on competiting with the system?

Stock charging system?

What's currently in your system?

What are you looking to do with your system?

The statements about the 15's sounding sloppier are correct. The only way to compensate for the sloppiness of a 15 is to put an enormous amount of power to it. By that power...I mean 3000 watts RMS.

If you are wanting a system to listen to and enjoy, go for the 12's. They will give you clean, deep bass and will sound better that a 15. Additionally, 15's are pretty much only for competiting and the uneducated, as they don't sound very good.

Good luck to ya and I hope this helps!!!

Just because someone likes 15" subs doesnt make them uneducated. It comes down to a matter of personal preference not whether you are educated or not. I know people who prefer 15s who have heard all kinds of different brands and sizes of subwoofers. It comes down to what you like. I appreciate all the input from everybody.

you couldnt see through the attempt at sounding knowledgeable about audio equipment and acoustics, and see the true n00b inside? lol

I can't get a 15" speaker cause according to audiophyl im gonna need at least 3000 watts rms to even make it sound good!!! LMAO... Nah just playin. That does seem like a nice speaker but it's a little out of my price range.

You said you wanted to port the box so I didn't figure SQ was your goal. Count on a 15 being about 1 and a half times a 12. I thought people stopped believing 12's sounded better years ago? ****, I wish more companies made an 18.

Yeah I'm leaning toward the 15" im not to worried about SQ. I want it to boom. I won't have the bass in the corner all the time though. Depending on what kind of music im listening to i would turn down the bass some and i think it would sound pretty decent. I also like the fact that 15s extend to lower frequency.

Don't get me wrong I want it to sound good. Maybe it won't sound as good as some 12's but I think it will sound pretty good and it will also be able to really boom hard when I'm feeling like it.

If they had the Tempest out, it'd be about $150 shipped, I think, for the new one.
http://www.acoustic-visions.com/~acoustic/products/subwoofer_drivers/adire_15_tempest/

And here's the clip of my Tempest:
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/230353//Tempest.AVI
It would push my back glass on the Bronco out pretty good. I have a 4cu.ft. box for it, is the only problem, so it takes up a lot of space when I had it.

I think I'm gonna get another Tempest and sell my Alpine Type-R.

Remember, I said one 15 is like 1.5 12's. The 15 will probably go slightly lower but I think 2 12's in a slot ported box ( a big one if you wanna go low ) would be louder than 1 15.

If you want loud, hard hitting bass, and save some space...go with the kicker solo baric L7's. The square design will out perform any round speaker same size. Ex:

L7 8" sub hits harder and sounds better then a round 10"
L7 10" sub hits harder and sounds better then a round 12"
L7 12" sub hits harder and sounds better then a round 15"

One of my friends has 2 12" L7's in a ported box and it slammed! way better then 12's and 15's with round design.

do you have any proof of this? cause ive seen setups with 8's and 10's that could kill some L7 setups in SPL. when it comes to dB's undoubtably, the box is the most important aspect of the system. What sub you get makes a difference (for example, the s12L7 has more surface area than a regular round 12" sub), but you cant say that L7s will kill any other 12's

Ok, my bad not ALL round subs, but unless your talking high dollar subs, then the kickers are awesome. Yes the box does make a difference, however reguardless of what music you listen to, the solo baric is good for all kinds. And the set ups that could "kill" a person, howmany subs were used? and was is compaired to an equal amount of square subs? doubt it. Plus I don't think blaze is looking to kill anybody, just get good bang for the buck. In which case the kickers again are awesome.
