Cold air intake(oh no not again!)

Ebay! I figure a cold air intake is a cold air intake. Check this out.

eBay Intake

All it needs is an heatshield.....

anyone have any expeirence with these? Opinions?

I purchased one for my '94 and have a regular AEM cone filter on it.  Got the filter from Advanced for about $15 and it's working great.  I didn't have my Blazer long before I got it, I got my Blazer with a broken OEM filter box.

I had to make a way to support the filter end of the tube, but that was pretty simple.  Alternator clearance is TIGHT so when you make your support, don't forget to figure that into it.  The crack case vent tube was interesting.  I had to cut a 4inch piece of the hard tubing and put it in the end so that it would go into the gromet they supply with it.

I also noticed (with mine at least) that the tube was a BIT small to properly accept a normal aftermarket filter, so I took the blue piece that goes between the tube and the intake, cut a 1" wide piece out of it, and placed it on the other end as a spacer to get the AEM filter to seal properly and tightly on the end.

As for a heat shield, I'm sure some fiberglass and time would allow someone to make one without an issue.  There's MORE than enough room in that corner after you get the stock air box out of there.

Okay. Yeah i heard it can rub against the alternator. What do i do to stop that? Keep in mind, i dont have TONS of tools to do crazy stuff. Just the basics.

Thanks.

i would say make a braket to raise it a lil bit above. i've also been very curious as how these cheap ebay intakes hold up and work. i was thinkin of buyin one and painting it w/ some heat resistant paint to help it and build my custom heat shield (theres a thread on here on how to build ur own custom cai just search for it using the search tool) its really good info even tho it is for a 2nd gen blazer the concept is still the same

I have ebay bought cold air kits on my '98 blazer and '01 civic, the civic has had the kit installed on it for a good 3 years now with no problems and I just installed the blazers kit a few months ago. So far i cant complain about either. Just make sure you are getting exactly what you need, make sure it will fit. For the most part, if it looks like it will work, it probably will.

Johnkoch -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (2/25/2008 7:44:02 PM)

Mine has had one on it for a little over a year now and it works good.

thegr81 -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (2/26/2008 12:30:43 AM)

All I did was take my factory air box out and throw on a cone filter from autozone and thats it!!

rastaskater -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (2/26/2008 9:21:55 PM)

So i think im going to get the one of ebay. but i dont know about a heat shield.....

94blueknight -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (2/26/2008 10:26:33 PM)

fab one up heres a link to a how to for the heat shield and intake

drperry -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (2/27/2008 3:08:52 AM)

Ebay intake + quality air filter isn't a bad idea...

I just dropped an AEM panel filter into my truck, lol.

rastaskater -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (2/27/2008 9:32:58 PM)

Okay. Im getting the one off ebay. Plus im going to make my own heatshield....

Irobinson88 -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/12/2008 3:50:04 PM)

Aren't these intakes illegal though?

WolfPack -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/12/2008 4:00:45 PM)

uh...no.  Why would they be?

Irobinson88 -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/12/2008 8:06:17 PM)

because they don't have an EO#, so they aren't 50 state carb legal. I know because I got a fix it ticket one time for having an ebay intake, and the ticket was like 300 dollas. But the only reason I got pulled over was because my exhaust was to loud, and the lady made me pop my hood.

WolfPack -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/13/2008 4:25:01 AM)

Interesting...I've never heard of that..

But a quick google search shows that used to be the case.  Now all the major manufacturers (AEM, Injen, K&N) all say '50 State Legal'.  Probably because they have those executive order numbers now, or emissions standards have changed up a bit.

94blueknight -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/13/2008 9:45:24 AM)

well its not illegal unless u get caught. and for the most part for everyone else on here they rnt gunna get pulled over and have to pop the hood (majority atleast). so the cops will never know.

Logan -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/13/2008 10:02:41 AM)

In Canada its ok to have it[:)]

Nope.  It's still illegal if it's against the law.  But like I posted up there, all the major manufacturers are 50 state legal..if you custom make your own, probably not so much.  The question then becomes what exactly is in the executive order allowing the intake..and if it pretains to the filter type, or the amount of air going into the throttle body..etc..

drperry -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/14/2008 1:32:27 PM)

Usually... Unless you anger the police pulling you over, they won't bother you at all...

Unless you live in California.

Irobinson88 -> RE: Cold air intake(oh no not again!) (3/14/2008 3:32:25 PM)

Yeah, I live in Cali, thats probably why
