Could use some help here - 2/10/2008 5:51:05 PM    Pedro   Posts: 6 Joined: 2/10/2008 Status: offline My father has a 1975 Blazer and the ignition where the key goes in broke he said and will not allow it to turn, any ideas on what can be done?  He said he took the steering wheel out and could not figure how to get the ignition cam or whatever it is called out.  Post #: 1

Canada Status: offline Once the steering wheel is off you will see a lock plate. The plate has to be pushed down to remove a circular clip on the shaft. The plate can be pressed down evenly on both sides with some strong hands or you can use a tool to depress the plate. ( sorry only part of the tool shows in the pic). After the plate is off then remove 1 screw to remove the t/signal lever, 1 screw to remove the hazzard button, then 3 screws to remove the signal switch. * I remove some of the lower steering column trim to access and disconnect the t/signal wiring so that it's easier to pull the t/signal switch up the column an inch or two. Then there is 1 screw that locks the ign cylinder in place. Remove that screw and you can pull the cylinder out. Put it all back together the way you took it apart. Let us know if there's any problem.....or when you have it fixed. You know fathers never really give you all the answers.  Well in any case the cylinder where the key goes in broke so the key was useless turns out according to a mechanic that if it is still factory there is a thin membrane of aluminum that needs to be kind of punched out to get the cylinder out.  The problem now is he thinks everything is put together correctly but could use a diagram of the steering column of a 1975 K5 blazer.  Any advice or should I tell him to buy a manual? Canada Status: offline Some of the older models have a tab on the inside end of the cylinder that needs to be pushed with a small screwdriver. I believe they may have to be in the accessory position to see it. Otherwise some of the newer ones have a thin piece of spring steel that activates the key warning buzzer and that can usually be removed with needle nose pliers or a thin magnet but that won't stop the cylinder from coming out. Sorry I don't have a better pic, this is a lousy manual, it's a Haynes.
