Just found out today that the banks are cutting 50% of the construction loans until the housing market picks back up. Being that I work in HVAC, that means my work is cut 50% also. My Dad and uncle have told the two least productive and least needy employees that Friday after next will be their last day. I'm gonna still be making the duct, but I'll only make about 10-15 hours every two weeks.  dad said he hasn't seen the housing market in this bad of shape since he founded Evans Heating and A/C in '87.  I doubt I'll be doing any more on the Blazer until work picks back up. Might even have to consider selling it and get something with a little better gas mileage and little less cost of ownership .   I'll have to play it by ear for the next couple of months though. I hope everything pulls out of the recession soon. I may go so far as to call it an "impending depression".

I work for a Building Products Company and our residential sales have dropped dramatically in the past 2 yrs. My company instead of letting people go, just started shuffling employees to other branches.

i had a terrible day too

I can't move in on the 10th now, because the lady thats RENTING my new house from the SELLER is refusing to move.  And get this, they are sisters!!!  it blows because the seller can't be held liable (unless i take her to court) which i don't have the $ to since i just bought the house now. Shes suppose to be out the 9th, but that aint happening.  Good thing my realtor is workin with me still to get all this crap figured out.  Have to give here a 30 days to leave notice BEFORE i can go to court and get the evict papers, then those will prolly give her 60 days.  Not to mention she will prolly rip the place to shreds on the way out.  No i have to figure out how the hell im gonna pay RENT to live at my apartment, and my home loan, thats 1st payment is due on april 1st  Im only gonna have the money for 1 when it rolls around.  Im so screwed.  I think the seller knew this all along, since my realtor called hers and she said its out of their hands we own the property.  Man this is so messed up, i just hope everything works out.  Did i mention im screwed?

It would have to happen now too. The slowest service and replacement season we have. We could let all the employees go and get by on doing service only. That would cut Dad's take-home by about 30% and would cut my 15-20hrs per week down to about 3-4.  Mom just got a raise for the time she is on call, so thats good, but that still doesn't help me any. I guess I'll end up having to get a job in retail.

Doesn't really work that way. We go all over the Eastern part of the state and do work for our contractors, but our business is next to the house here. It like this everywhere. Carolina Comfort Air (a business not far away that we refer some of our service work to) has already went bankrupt because their major contractors went bankrupt.  I don't think its gonna come to that right now, but there is no promise of getting any work anytime soon. Its like everything has come to an absolute dead stop.

Retail isn't bad for a student

It's no HVAC job, but it'll work.  And just don't tell em youre working a temp schedule.  Get hired like youre in it for a career, and then leave when your other job gets rolling again.  Hourly retail/food service is kinda built on high turnover rates remember!

And 10pin that sucks.  If the seller is saying you own the property, get her out of your land!  And you could try calling a lawyer and explaining the situation.  If you take her to court and a possible settlement, the lawyer might pay the costs and then take a % of the settlement at the end to make up for it.

I've put in 8 applications at different places. Levi outlet, Autozone (put those in before Christmas) Banana Republic, Valvoline service... just to name a few.
I hope I get the job at Valvoline or Autozone. That comes with nice perks . Autozone has called me back about a interview, but that was last month, and I still havent heard anything back. I think the manager (Jason, who I know pretty well) said he had 4 people on the waiting list already and one of them I know for sure got hired.

My brother-n-law kinda got lucky in a "man that sucks" kinda way.  He is doing heating and air for now after his umpteen lay off from Freight-liner (they keep laying off then hiring back and laying off and etc, etc), well the housing market slow down was just now reaching his company and as luck would have it he feel off a roof and ripped his knee to shreds.  So while everyone at his company is getting less and less hours he is sitting at home after surgery with a steady paycheck due to Workman's comp.

The only reason it's lucky is they are just now getting out of bankruptcy (because of the constant lay off's) and really couldn't afford not having a steady pay check, just sucks he had to go through extensive surgery for it.

Well fortunately for me, working in retail has it's perks because people always have to eat, and my grocery store is the most affordable in the area with the exception of the small places that are so filthy the vermin won't eat there! Low hourly pay does suck though. I'm very fortunate to have my toyota pick-up to drive, $20 bucks gets me 3/4 of a tank which gets me the 60 miles round trip to work for 3 or 4 days.
