I had nothing much to do, with school ending early, and plenty of time and a Blazer, my friends and I, decided to take our trucks up to Assunpink Lake in Central Jersey. My friend was driving a 95' Ford F-150 (1 Wheel Drive, Literally, Lol), and I had my 97' Chevrolet S-10/2 Dr. Blazer 4x4. I could handle pretty much anything with ease, he had a little more trouble, I flew through giant puddles of water no problem, (I'll be honest, I slipped a little on some really deep and sandy ones), he tried flying through them just as I did. It didn't work out so well, he pulled way too much water into his Air Intake, causing his truck to stall out and die, right as he managed to make the problems. The Ford Jokes never stoped, especially since he talked nothing about my Blazer. I figured, "Alright, lets call our teacher, (has a Toyota Tacoma), and is really handy in automotives, he drove up there, was able to get most of the water out of the intake, and get his truck going with no engine damage, we think.
So the score for breakdowns is
Chevy - 0
Ford - 1
Toyota -0
We kept going down trails, hitting some nice bumps, and I managed to get my Blazer at a 45 degree angle, where my friend managed to get his F-150 airborn. My teacher could take almost anything in his 4 wheel drive Tacoma, so could I. I felt invincable in that Blazer, we stopped again, apparently the Ford was losing lots of power in 1st gear, but nothing serious, but still, add 1 to Ford.
Chevy - 0
Ford - 2
Toyota -0
We continued, I cannot count how many times I hit my front end (No Damage Done, Thank You Chevy), then I started to lose power, and right after I cleared a puddle the truck died. I cursed, and called up ahead for everyone to come back. I hoped and prayed nothing got into the engine, I opened up the air intake, and the thing was bone dry, not a drop of water. As it turns out, as I cleared the course, I knocked some sort of little vacume tube looking thing loose, which fell onto a few wires, preventing the Blazer from going anywhere. We corrected it, amazingly my teacher had zipties, and mounted it to prevent it from moving.
The score was:
Chevy - 1
Ford - 2
Toyota - 0
Simple fix, we went to leave, and my friend with the F-150 had trouble starting again.
Chevy - 1
Ford - 3
Toyota - 0
We fixed the issue, something wasn't screwed down tight, and had to get a little water out of the intake. We got rolling again, and decided to head home before it got dark. After a long ride home, I got home, and seeing my Blazer was completely covered in mud, I was satisfied. (Everywhere, the roof, windows, tires, windows, spare tire.) Everytime I'd pull up to a light, people would turn and stare looking like "What the hell did you do to your truck?", I'd just laugh and keep going.
As for the Breakdowns, the Toyota had no breakdowns, mine had the least, and Ford failed with the most. (Completely expected.) Well I can't say "FORIEGN VEHICLES FTW" since I know that some of the parts in the toyota trucks are made by GM, so in a sense GM dominates, and Blazers FTW, I'm glad I got this Blazer, its been fairly good to me.

That is awesome, its good to hear that you put ford in its place!!! Bet your buddy wants a chevy now!!

i go to the school right next to assunpink lake, the vo-tech assunpink center
where you go offroading there? directions to trails? the school i go to is right on old trenton road(becomes edinburg rd in like 1/2 mile)

I wish I could tell you Dan39, but this place is in the middle of nowhere, I wouldn't of been able to get out of there if I didn't follow my buddy on the way out. Forget me finding the place, I can tell you my route I took as best I can, but I would end up getting you lost. So I google maped it, see link. I hope that helps. Just drive there, look for the dirt roads, when you pass the house with the guy sitting on the porch with the gun your close or if you take the back way, theres this horse thing.

you had 3 times the traction lol plus extra weight in the back.....

for the record, I have owned as many good fords as I have chevys or toyotas.... I love my 4.3L but it in no way, shape, form, or fashion compares to a ford 300ci 6cylinder.... and if fords suck so bad, how come the most popular upgrades to chevy muscle cars are ford rear ends? what about putting ford steering and suspension in street rodded chevy trucks? chevy does have the 350, and I give them props for that... probably the most popular engine of all time... I love my chevys and fords and thus far, after about 4 of each brand I cant honestly say one is better than the other... however, If I went to buy a new full size truck it would not be a silverado...... not even a 2500HD....... new silverados are cheap! and the 2500HD has IFS!?!?!?!??? WTF??? need a SFA under a heavy duty pickup IMO......
LAST GOOD SILVERADOS
BEST SILVERADO EVER MADE.. IMO the best laid out/thought out/tough silverado body style was 1988-1998

My intentions are not to start a Ford Vs. Chevy Battle, I had my bad expierences with Chevy plenty of times. Especially with Cavs, talk about bad engines. I had bad expieriences with a lot of different makes, but I'm still set on chevy, Ford makes a decent truck I'll give them that, my buddy was able to run his without any oil for quite a while, surprised me he didn't damage the engine in it, I couldn't or wouldn't do that.
As for body styles and new cars/trucks in general the amount of plastics in the body lately is rediculous, my sister totalled her 2007 Civic when she rear ended another. The other older civic which had a metal body had a scratch. I'd probably stick with a older vehicle anyways, in many ways its worth it.
On topic,
I will state that the Ford did tend to stall the most out there, its true it did happen. I heard of some sort guard for the F150 to prevent that much water from getting up in the intake and up into the engine, any idea what its called?
