I want to get a tire carrier for the rear of my 03 Blazer.  I have found a few off of older models and wanted to know if they will work.  Are they all the same or do I need to get one from the same body style as mine.  I haven't been able to find any aftermarket ones either.

RCars2 mounted a rear spare tire carrier on his 4-door, 2nd gen body style.

I can't recall if he had to do any structural support to hold up the weight or what all he did exactly..but it can be done!

No structural support needed , I had one put on my 85 and now I wish that I didn't as a 36" tire on the back makes it look ridiculous but that was back when I had 31's on it and I wanted chrome wheels all around ...
Any GM dealer will get you an aftermarket carrier and install it , if you want a GM one from GM forget it , they only sell them in parts ...
Check out ZR2USA as lots of guys have taken theirs off , check eBay too ..

The original question is does a 1st gen carrier fit on a 2nd gen...

I don't think it does... But I haven't really looked all that close, lol.

touche.

Then again, the oldest of the 2nd gens would be 10+ years...that's a bit old to me

Mine used to sqeak as well. All I did was take some electrical tape and wrap it around the bar that the tire carrier latches to. The sound went away and I am happy, because I didn't have to do anything crazy.

I will be taking mine off asap. I don't like the look and its all that I see in the rear view.  Weld up the holes, blow in paint/clear and carry a can of fix-a-flat. Its going to look much better.
