i use to work at riffkis, kinda of like a jiffy lube, its so easy to change and do those things, and they must know their not doing it(not unitentionally or forgetting iut), becasue we bring the customers out during the process, and show them it happening, show them the old fluids, and then show thme their dipstick with new fluids on it, thats wrong they need to be sued

It is rediculous how easy it is to rip people off when it comes to automobiles.  People no longer care how a vehicle works or what is required to maintain them just so long as it gets them from A to B.

The only thing I take to a shop is oil changes.  I've been going to Just Tires (formerly GoodYear something) since I was 16 and my buddy worked there.  They only charge 19.99 for oil and filter, and I don't have to get messy.  Everything else though I do.

Last weekend I cleaned out the rear diff and put in Royal Purple .  Jiffy Lube charges 169.99 for that!! Rear axle is probably something they'd rip me off on as well!

Thankgod I learned how to turn a wrench!!!! I feel worse for the women that go to these places and really get ripped off!! One of our local news stations did something similar to a few shops out here a couple years back and busted several little shops seriously ripping women off big time!!

Yeah i never did like jiffy lube. Even if they do do the work, they over tighten everything. They are notorious for stripping out the threads when they do oil changes. luckily, we have another place on the west coast called les shwab (more of a tire place really). They are pretty honest IMO.

Won't load here at school because the firewall is gay. But since were discussing oil places...

I have a place I go to get mine changed, its called Outback.... As in Outback-o'-da-house    Which reminds me, I'm due for an oil change.

I've been to the Valvoline service station only once to have my oil changed... never again. I broke two filter cups and a metal band filter wrench getting (trying to get) the filter off. Finally punctured it with a screwdriver and got it off.

I've never gone to a plce like that before, and i dont think i ever will. it really isnt difficult to pull the oil plug and unscrew the filter. There worse part is the people who dont have the knowledge to work on their own vehicles. the 20.00 that they are losing isnt a big deal, its the 2500.00 that they have to bring forth when the motor blows because the oil is bad.

All of you guys that change your own oil...do you have a grease gun to keep the chassis lubed?  I've got the whole grease gun set up with my 33 gal. air compressor and what not..but I know my neighbor always changed his own oil, but saw me out there with the grease gun and came over to see what I was doing.  He didn't even know what a grease zerk was!

My girlfriend don't even know how to change a tire... I said you gotta use your jack and jack it up, and when I got to that point, she said "Whats a jack?" ugh  at least she has book smarts...

i have never had the problem of shops ripping me off. me and my dad work on our veachiles there is no point when he is a automotive service tech (fancy name for a lightduty mechanic), makes no sence to do it when we have everything right at home.

It's so easy to be ripped off when it comes to things like this, but I don't understand why more people don't do these simple maintenance things.  I love oil change time.  I did the Blazer, the RSX, and a buddies Formula this past weekend.

I don't have fun doing Trans filters though.  They are messy.

Must be just your Goodyear branch... I quoted a set of Fortera Tripletread 235/75 R15 at Goodyear for $850 stemmed/balanced/mounted. Quoted the same tire at Rick's Tire and got a quote for $650 stemmed/balanced/mounted.

There's an important definition between 'high prices' and 'ripping off'.  Jiffy lube was ripping people off by saying they were doing the work, taking the money, and not doing it.  Goodyear is just over priced.  The good news is most Goodyear shops will price match.  Take your quote and see what the managers wanna do.  Get better service from a better place, but at the family mechanic price
