Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on here. I have been looking around to see if anyone has had a similar problem to mine but wasn't able to find anything.
Here is my problem..I have a 98 Blazer 4x4 with 98,000 miles. The rpms were fluctuating a few weeks ago at idle and the vehicle felt like it wanted to go forward with my foot on the break. Rpms went up to around 1,000 and then back to 500.
I checked for vacuum leaks and couldn't find any leaks. Friday I went to the store started up blazer, the rpms went to 1,000 and it was a hard shift to reverse and then drive. While driving first to second gear is real hard and then it wouldn't shift into third...I even got up to 3000 rpms and no shift.
Checked transmission level and it was low...added fluid and still have the same problem.
I have read many of the posts on here and you guys are true professionals. Please let me know any ideas that you have.
Thanks

Have you had any check engine lights? Have you had your vehicle checked for any history codes? Some parts stores will either do this, or loan you a scanner to do this for free. Trouble codes might help with the diagnosis.

I haven't had any engine codes pop up.  I've been doing a little research on the Mass Air Flow sensor.  It seems like someone had a smiliar problem to mine and fixed it by cleaning the sensor.  I did notice yesterday while I was looking for vacuum leaks that my MAF sensor is black.  I'm going to try to clean that out tonight and see if it helps.
I might take it up to Autozone and have them run the codes on it after the cleaning.
I'll keep you posted after tonight.  Thanks to both of you for your responses.  Hopefully I'll get this fixed soon!

Cleaned MAF sensor and took for a test drive.  The cleaning didn't help any.  Drove to Autozone to have them pull codes but they are closed for the night.  Transmission was whining a little and I still have the hard shift from first to second gear it did go into third gear in D but won't go into third in 3.
Does anyone else have any ideas or should I just take it to the shop?
Thanks

I did some more messing around and found my problem. The four wheel low light was accidentally pushed and it was in four low. All is well now. I feel like such an idiot but I'm glad that I don't have to buy a new tranny.
Thanks guys for all of your help.
