I have a 1986 K5 with a 305 v8, and a 4 spd auto with what i belive to be the stock Q jet. How do i tell if it is a computer controlled carb and if it is what other equipment is required(o2 sensors ect.) for it to operate correctly? also how hard would it be to convert it to non computer controlled?

Are there any wires going to the carb? A stand alone carb won't have any wiring aside from maybe an electric choke which should be one or two wires and located on the passenger side of the carb.

okay so there are two wires going into the top of the fuel bowl, so then my carb is computer controlled, are there any peripherals associated with it i.e. o2 sensors ECM ect.?

Yes, if it is a computer controlled carburetor, it will have an oxygen sensor. I believe it is in the driver's side exhaust manifold right above the connection to the y-pipe.

so should i have a computer? and what would happen if i just disconnected the two wires going into the carb? also what would happen if i had a computer controlled carb but no o2 sensor( i can't find one anywhere on it?

If you really have a computer controlled carb, you have an O2 sensor. The computer control of the carb controls the metering of fuel. If you were to disconnect the wiring, I don't know if it would even start... Try it and see.

As far as the O2 sensor, look around on the exhaust from up top and underneith.
