Just to get some things out of the way- I don't own any hand guns, just an old yugo SKS. I would go with the springfield XD. It has more stoping power than the 38, and its more compact than the 1911 without sacrificing barrel length or mag capacity. Also, the springfield has a melonite coated barrel, while the 1911 has a stainless steel barrel, which means the 1911 can still rust (and possibly pit). heres something i found on melonite.. "Melonizing" is a metal treatment process. Unlike a mere coating or bluing, Melonite actually hardens and slightly increases the carbon composition of the firearm's surface. it goes into a bath of about 1080 degrees, and hardens, slicks, blackens and smooths the surface, while making it completely impenetrable to rust or corrosion Just my opinion though...

ORIGINAL: BLK85 Im looking at a new 1911. I like Kimber the most. The one I decided on is a Stainless model and is around 800. In a 1911 I wouldnt consider anything but a Kimber, their quality is far above any other gun out there. For 450 I would get a Glock, they are around 500 for the ones I have been looking at for concealment purposes. They are decent guns too. My friend has a kimber .45 1911. Thats one fine firearm. The trigger pull is so slight and light, it feels like the safety is on. I guess you would call it a " one stage" trigger...

I have been shooting a 12ga. shotgun for 6-7 years now, and occasionally rifles (mainly .22's). I have a Remington 870 express right now and am thinking about upgrading to a Benelli shotgun, but I am torn between upgrading shotguns or buying a handgun when I turn 21. Out of the ones you mentioned I like the looks and size of the XD. I don't know much about handguns other than some of the more popular names (which tend to be larger guns).

Even if they are stamped, sometimes all the need is a sight adjustment. i like my milled yugo though, even if it was made by a bunch of commies.

haha ya i have no clue who made it but ya it wasnt that good imo so i upgraded. with my remington 30 06 i've gotten like 3 deer (one each yr the past 3 yrs) and they pretty much drop right there for me lol or they just run a couple of feet and then fall over. i'm a pretty good shot. one time the deer was like 20yrds or less away from me and the exit hole was about 2-3" in diameter lol

ORIGINAL: TheBrettster I have an XD 45 and i love it, excellent accuracy i also have a Colt 45 but i'd rather use the XD 45 in a situation. I wouldn't go with the taurus (not a big fan) but you cannot go wrong with the XD. BTW dont get an eagle if you are thinking of it their rubbish. My dad has two and they both welded themsevles shut cause of heat. Whoa there! You need to be more specific. Are you talking about a full size eagle with the .50 cal? Because I have only ever heard of those breaking recoil springs because of the kick. And I know for certain that baby eagles don't have issues with off the shelf ammo having owned 2 myself (both in .40 cal). With proper maintenance an eagle should last you forever. Perhaps your father does his own reloads and made them too hot? Or possibly put them together wrong getting them jammed up and making it seem as though they "welded" together? Hate to say it, but calling a Desert Eagle rubbish seems kind of ignorant to me. It was both the 45 and the .50 Cal It WAS welded together due to the heat. This happened after a few rounds and no he doesn't make his ammunition. Down here at the magnum range there has been similiar reports. Dont get me wrong they are SICK guns but for reliability they suck. Why do you think there not used widely ? They BDE has had there share of problem with the triggers and problems with ejection.

I would take a Springfield Loaded 1911 over any of the low-end Kimbers ($1200 or less). AS for shotguns, euro, I would not upgrade my 870 to a benelli. My buddy has a benelli that is no more accurate than my 870. We shoot trap alot and frequently have the same results. Is it a better gun? yea, probably, but unless you are the Professional Benelli Show Shooter, you probably won't notice any difference... I am looking into a glock 23 right now. I would go with the glock 27 (Kentucky STate Police backup gun) but my hand is too big for the grips. oh welll i just gotta keep looking.....

Yea I am going to get one from sportmans but they are 550 bucks, im saving up to get one. The guy I talked to at the store has one and conceals it nicely, plus the grip is perfect for those of us with larger hands!!!

If you upgrade your shot gun look into a Beretta. When I was looking at shot guns I looked at many different brands, includeing Winchester, Remington, Benelli, and Beretta. The Beretta by far was the best gun. I have a 391 Urika, it cost me 700 4 years ago and are now around 1k. I would not hesitate to spend that much for it. I am trying not to spend more than $600 on a shotgun though and my friend has a Benelli Nova 12ga. that I like a lot. They seem to be well built and last a while, and they are a little cheaper than $1k. Then if I get a cheaper shotgun I could get a handgun too.
