Congrats on the rifle, thats a great deal and looks like a really nice rifle (way nicer than I have shot).

Well I went to the range today and I am hooked on pistols. I only got to shoot a Ruger .22 KP678HMKIII. Its a fairly acurate range gun but really big and no kick. I know some of the other members of the pistol club and they are going to let me try out their 9mm's and .45's next week. That should be sweet. I had never shot a pistol till tonight and I still got a majority of them thru the middle black dot on the target (even while figuring out if I was going to shoot lefty or righty or left/right eye dominant). I am left eye dominant and therefore shoot rifle and shotgun lefty (with a righty gun). So with the pistol I found out I can shoot right handed and left eye dominant.

A_tack:

The taurus looks pretty good, but I keep adding guns to my list instead of narrowing it down, I am up to 8 now (Ruger SR9 and the Taurus you mentioned)

Yeah I won't be buying one till sometime at the end of August or beginning of September, since I won't be 21 till end of August. Yeah that a sweet gun the ruger, but it looks really small. I am not looking for something super small to carry but something in the middle that I could carry if I decided to get my Concealed licesne, but also something that would good for shooting at the range (as that will be mostly what I will be using it for). Also I am going to try as many people's guns as possible before I but so I know what I am getting (since $400+ just doesn't grow on trees).

Personally, I own 4 handguns.

I have a S&W Polished Nickel Plated 9mm with custom carved Oak grips, this was my grandfathers gun, he bought and carved the grips himself back in 1985. That pistol has never been used, and it is strictly a showpiece.

I have a teeny tiny Jennings .22 that I hide in a convenient spot in the house.

My two carry guns, that I find to be easily concealable:

Berser Thunder .380 and a Walther PP.

Don't know if either of those are in your current price range, but both are reliable guns and easy to conceal.

I currently carry a Kel-Tec P11.  It is way easy to conceal, light, and pretty comfortable to shoot for being such a small gun.  It is the smallest and lightest 9mm available.  You can find them for less than $350 new.

http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/p11.html

They also make a little 380 for about the same price.

I bought a Glock 27 last year for concealed carry. I love it for the cheaper range ammo (it's a 9mm for those not familiar) and the hollow points are nearly as powerful as .40 with less kick. My thought was a little less power, but a little better aimed. I also liked the XD, but I just fell in love with my Glock and haven't looked back. Once I graduate, I want to get a G21 for range and hunting safety (hogs are a problem where I hunt in Texas). By the way, that is a nice looking rifle. What kind of shotgun do you own Aaron (sorry if I missed it being stated, it was a long post and I had to keep coming back to it between tasks)?

Lenny, if you are looking for a good range gun that you can also carry, look into the Springfield 1911 A-1 GI model... you can usually get these guns with a parkerized finish for under $500. They are excellent range guns. Most people swear by the 1911 platform. They are a base model 1911 that will pull sub 2.5" groups at 15 yards out of the box. They are thin as well so they are easy to carry. Also, if you ever feel the need to upgrade, the 1911 style handgun is the most customizeable gun on the market. There are more accessories for 1911 hanguns than there are for ruger 10/22 rifles. And theres a crap load of stuff for 10/22's...

Bought me an AR today.  Should be here in a few weeks.  Its going to be a custom built one with a few parts that I want.  I cant wait.

Never mind, found a car the day after I ordered this.  I sold it already and its not even here.  Made $100 too.

Thanks for all the info. I keep finding more and more guns that I like, also the longer I look the more they get out of my price range. Now I found the Kimber Tactial Pro II, that I like a lot, its just over a thousand dollars though

i have a Remington 870 express magnum(first Gun) and this summer i plan to expand my collection with a Thompson Center Triumph .50 caliber muzzle loader. it is not legal to hunt with a high-powered rifle in the southern half of the lower peninsula(where i live) so it is going to be my new deer gun

a_tack, what about a XD .45 Compact?  I have the Service model and it's been great.  Over 2k rounds through it and it keeps getting smoother and smoother.  I love your 1911 btw.  I think a SA 1911 varient is my next pistol purchase.

Theres just something about the whole XD line I don't like. I think mainly it is the way it feels in my hand. I will be picking up my new Glock 23 sometime in the next 2 weeks..

I'm the exact opposite as you, I HATE the feel of Glocks.  It puts your wrist at an unnatural, downward angle and just feels like crap compared to their competition.  They're great guns and all but not for me.  I'm surprised you don't like the way XD's feel since you seem to like your 1911.  XD's hold a lot like 1911's.... but you should know that already.

yea.. ive been looking at them for a long time. Actually I was dead set on an XD sub-compact .40 until I finally went and held them..... there is a particular fit for everyone. I just wish Glock had a grip safety like the XD! If I could get XD features with a glock grip.... id be happy...lol

Here in Tn. they don't issue "concealed carry permits", In stead they issue "handgun carry permits". It is up to the individual as to whether they want to carry it concealed or in the open. I completely agree that it just creates potential problems carrying it in veiw, so I choose to keep my Ruger 9mm concealed. In your case I think I'd stick with the .45 and find a way to conceal it. Shoulder harness or inside the waist band holster, maybe??? If you must have a smaller frame weapon, there are numberous ones out there made just for concealed carry. Choose a quality weapon that meets your specific requirments and load it with a good self defense ammo. Alan

the problem carrying the .45 is that it weighs 38 ounces without the magazine..... adda mag with 7 rds of .45 and its a beast to carry...
