Finally Nice Enough Weather

Yooper -> Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/19/2008 8:39:10 PM)

Well, I couldn't work on my running boards until there was nice weather.  Seeing as I don't have a garage.  Today was a nice day here on Fort Riley, so I was able to bust out the Herculiner and do to my running boards what I have wanted to do.  I masked off the scooped out step areas of the running board and Herculined that area.  It looks really sharp.  Sorry I don't have pics right now.  It got dark just as I was finishing up.  I took some pictures throughout the process and I will take more of the finished product tommorrow and post them.  I though I would just let everybody know that the project was finally completed.

OK, here are the pics of the work I did on my running boards.  Hope everybody like them.

Looks good, did you put any grit in with it to make it rougher for grip?

Yooper -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/20/2008 11:34:16 PM)

No, I just used the Herculiner straight out of the can.  It brushed on WAY easier than I thought it would.  It already had grit in it and that seemed sufficient enough.  I don't ever really stand on my running boards anyway, except when I am clay barring my roof.  It is mostly for looks, but if I do give a ride to someone with shorter legs they will have it there to stand on.  Now I have some Herculiner left over.  Any suggestions???

Sterling -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/21/2008 12:37:54 AM)

spray it on your steering wheel for extra grip![sm=smiley17.gif]
(or tires if the tread is wearing low[:D] )

p.s. Very nice job! looks great

does that herculiner work on the body? i was thinkin of doin somethin like that as an anti chip for below the molding on my blazer

WolfPack -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/21/2008 9:53:22 AM)

That's a nice improvement!  Did they have any kind of step at all before, or just smooth and white like the first pic?

lennyblazer -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/21/2008 10:08:46 AM)

You could use it as a rust/chip preventer. Just make sure to prep the surface properly (sanding/removing any rust, etc.)

coplinb -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/21/2008 11:41:15 AM)

looks like you did a great job!

Yooper -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/21/2008 12:48:33 PM)

Yeah, as long as you prep the surface properly, you could use it for a chip/rust prevention.  Also, the running boards were just smooth and white before I did this.

davtak -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/21/2008 6:40:05 PM)

How about some lining for inside the wheel wells. Might take a bit though, but it would look sharp and clean on top of that.

Think i could use that stuff on the frame? Kind of protect it in a way.

yes i was planning on that if i were to do this. the best way to get a good finish it to properly prepare the surface. same thing applies for paint and finishes on wood.

tjwiens91: yes u could use this on the frame

Yooper -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/23/2008 6:55:24 PM)

I actually thought of hitting up the wheel wells and the frame too.  I am just not looking forward to spending the time working above my head with that stuff, which I would have to do for the frame.  The wheel wells won't be too bad as long as I take the tire off first.  It looks as though the wheel wells were done before.  It does need to be touched up, so I think I will do that.  I will let everybody know if/when I do it, and of course I will post pics.

tjwiens91@hotmail.co -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/24/2008 7:14:06 PM)

Yeah,i dont really like working with that stuff above my head. Just put on a face shield an old clothes an a hat an battle through it! lol

thegr81 -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/25/2008 2:27:53 AM)

Looks good, I will be using that same stuff for when I cut out my rear wheel wells to move them up for when I bag the rear of my blaze since its done now just to touch it up and coat the additional metal!!

Jharper -> RE: Finally Nice Enough Weather (3/25/2008 4:33:27 PM)

Looks great, i recently did the same thing to my frame this past week from nice weather.
