Well, I was bored yesterday and decided to drive through Oldtown in Greenup COunty and snap some pics. They show a little bit about kentucky history. See, most people think the towns in eastern Kentucky were originally coal mining boomtowns, but the truth is (at least in northeastern KY) that they were iron/steel producing boomtowns. Kentucky is very rich in iron ore. Attached are some pics of extremely old blast furnaces that still stand in the woods, covered bridges, etc.. The old Blast Furnace bases were craved out of the hillside and were solid stone, the tops were chunks of stone hauled in and carefully laid. I find this fascinating (because im too lazy to carve stone..lol) As for the covered bridge, I hate that people think its funny to spray paint their names on everything that doesn't move!! GRRR! You can actually have church in the old Buffalo school house (below) if you contact state park management.. FIRST: Buffalo Furnace and Schoolhouse..(greenbo lake state resort park) The Buffalo Furnace was not a solid stone base... that is why it has collapsed.. Second: Old Town Covered Bridge The river is up... Third: Laurel Furnace (waaaayyy better shape than Buffalo) yes that ^ is a slab of iron... \/ Furnace opening \/ Fire bowl \/ Vent/Chimney \/ Huge piece of iron.. Fourth: Oldtown Grocery/general store/post office.... closed for about 20-30 years.. Sorry for such a long post.. I like to share my adventures.. more to come in the summer time!

Those are neat pics. yesterday I was in downtown Dallas eating lunch and we decided to stop at the 6th Floor Museum (Where JFK was shot) I thought it was interesting reading all the conspiracy theories surrounding his assassination. I snapped a few pics but after I got home, I realized my phone was on the "low quality setting" :( This is where Lee Harvey Oswald shot him from. On the right side of the middle lane, there is an X on the ground where Kennedy was killed. A close up of the X on the ground. I took this pic standing just to the side of the X, the yellow box is the window he shot out of. The grass on the left is part of the "Grassy Knoll" and behind me and to the left there is a fence where the supposed "Second Gunman" shot from.

Ooo Ooo I love to share pics! I don't really have any historic-type monuments but...beautiful things, I got. First 2 are the Devils Breakfast table, about 15 minutes from my house. It's a swimming hole on the Catoosa Wildlife Reserve. Got it's name from some devil worshippers doing sacrifices up there back in the day. Thumbnail Image

This pic is of Mt. Roosevelt overlooking the river that the Oak Ridge Nuclear plant is on. Mt. Roosevelt is about 2000 feet above Oak Ridge, Rockwood, and Harriman (where my job is) Thumbnail Image
This pic was taken in my front yard last summer. I love summer pics. Thumbnail Image

Cool pics! Southern Ohio has many of those old iron furnaces to. One of my favorite places in KY to go camping and hiking is the Red River Gorge. http://www.redrivergorge.com/
