ok so i have 1993 s10 blazer 4*4 and with a 4.3L vortec.  today i was driving it and it felt like it had no power. a bit later i went and got onto the higway and i nearly had to floor it to watch my speeddometer snail its way up to 70.  then after about a quik 3 min i started to hear a really lound knocking noise when i pressed the gas.  i pulled of at the next exit and checked the oil etc. the oil was smoking and later when my step dad came up (he used to rebuild and teardown allot of engines before) he said that it is a blown rod..

any suggestions or help would be great!  I will be glad to answer any questions if you have any.

I agree just get another engine. Check out the wrecking yard. Not worth rebuilding IMHO.

If you have the CPI motor, another CPI motor is what you need.  Your step dad is mostlikely correct.  Sounds like you spun a rod bearing, most likely trashing the crank in the process.  A used motor is the cheapest route to getting your vehicle back on the road.

any local shop can tell you what exactly what you need, but allways get a second opion, just because there are alot of shadey mechanics out there trying to make the easy money.

TBI == large round air cleaner on top of the motor.

CPI == black plastic trim on top of the motor with orange VORTEC lettering.

The 93 will most likely have the CPI in it

No, the 4x4 attaches to the tranny. You will need to reuse your remote oil filter adapter though.
