I hear ya on that!  I'm in the process right now of pricing out on-board air systems.  I wanna be able to have air tools where ever I go..

I was going to buy my neighbors 93 toyota pickup, it was gonna be a replacement for my last car which i totalled,  , it was a 4 speed manual, but it had no drivers airbag, which the parents didnt like to well because in the accident if the airbag had not gone off, i would be either really injured or dead. NIce truck

I have little faith in air bags...I plowed through a stopped buick's trunk in an Explorer going 40 mph and my air bag didn't deploy.  We actually had to get out of the truck because the firefighters said the airbags should have gone off, and could at any second.

Thankfully the buick's airbags and side curtain bags deployed, which led to them being perfectly ok despite the massive collision.  Moral of the story: Don't let your 16 year old drive your SUV.

Um, i am that 16 year old, and i wasnt in a suv i was in a car with bad tires in the winter. Why do people give teenagers so much crap  about there driving, alot of them are good drivers, but some whose parents are doctors or something like that an they feel like they can do anything they want, an when they get pulled over they cry! I just point an laugh!

I shouldn't have let myself drive my SUV. lol

Anyway, tomorrow, I'll be well on the way to having it fixed. I found a bulletin on replacing the timing chan and it also has a tutorial on timing, so I'll use that to time it.  It was sursprisingly easy to get the radiator out. The radiator shroud was in the back of the truck when I got it, so that shaved about 10 minutes off the task of getting it out. I pretty much figured out that the guy had replaced the timing chain and didn't time it correctly, so after he cranked it up and it wouldn't run, he pulled it out in the field and left it there. There was no coolant in the radiator and there are still handprints in the dust on the bottom of the radiator. Theres also fresh form-a-gasket glooped around the groove where the top of the engine faceplate and intake manifold meet, which proves my theory.

Once I get it running, I'm gonna take the bed off and repair the dents, strip it down and primer it, then I'm gonna do the front fenders and hood. While I have that off, I'll fix the major dent in the side of the cab and go to work on it..... of course this is all wishful thinking unless I can get some money.

Yea I was the 16 year with the SUV .  But I know not all teenage drivers are bad...but it really is an inexperience thing.  Teenagers simply can't think of everything, much less know the best thing to do in a situation after only a few months of driving.  I learned my lesson...I just had to do it the hard way..

And Euro:

play the lottery .  Good job on the plan though...keeps ya on track!

Im 17 remember..... Can't play unless you are 18, but come September, I'm gonna buy a cigar and a lottery ticket to celebrate! lol

But yeah. I'll probably finish restoring it to new condition while I'm in college when I can actually work out a little money instead of being at school every stinkin day of the week.

I'm definately gonna work on it again this evening. Might finish it if I can get ahold of an air-ratchet.

My crankshaft bolt is stuck... any tips? I tried putting the breaker bar on it and bumping the starter, but its too tight for the starter to break it loose.

Dang... I was hoping you may have had some tips.....

Bad news.....
Well, I tried putting a wrench on the camshaft in the hopes of holding the crank while I got the bolt out and all I accomplished was tightening the heck out of the cam bolt. I've done everything short of taking the starter off and jamming the flywheel. Its way too tight. I tried an impact gun, still no go. May just end up selling the 100 buck truck to the scrapyard.

You'll probably get a hundred dollars or more for it from the junkyard anyhow. We got $175 for my 1988 Nissan Sentra 2 Door from the junkyard.

Noooo don't sell it to the scrap yard, I'll buy it from ya for more than the scrap yard will give ya, Brent! It's an extended cab, right? I really need one of those...they fit carseats better than the standard cab does!

patients, really you only paid 100 for it.  take your time with it.

Why worry about painting it anyways, id get the bang for the buck on this and fix the internals before the externals.
