All day today the Plainville PD has been at my school with K-9 units investigating and searching lockers. It was another case of harrassing the social outcast and he wrote up a hitlist with over 50 names on it.  He specifically went up to every person on the list and asked what their full name was.
No one thought anything of it until the principal came on the PA today and called a code green (lockdown). It was 4 and half hours of silence before the principal came back on the PA and asked everyone to go to the auditorium and talk about what was going on.
The kid who wrote the list was arrested and suspended awaiting an expulsion hearing with the board of ed. Thank god I was not on that list, I'm not one to harass kids.

Is it just me or are kids getting even more stupid and screwed up than they were when I was a kid?

Such a waste.  It is getting rediculous.  You can't disipline your kids anymore cause that would be abuse regardless of what you do.  You can't force them to do anything and thus they feel like they can do whatever they want.

In my line of work I see a lot of kids with this disorder or that behavior problem.  99% of the time it is poor parenting at fault.  Just my three cents shy of a nickel.

Kyle (oops, i was talking to gary in cloakone.com/chat and accidentally said his name, im sorry kyle), It's true that you cant discipline your kids according to the law, but if I ever did anything even close to this, my dad would throw me down a flight of stairs, not to abuse me, but because that's what I deserve, I think that you should be able to discipline your kids how ever you feel. Its stupid that the police and DCF intervene whenever you lay a hand on your kids. I think they should only step in when your are assaulting your kids for no reason or out of anger.

Yeah its sad, even in the 4 years since I have been in high school it seems like kids are getting stupider, more demanding, and getting what they want. I think all this technological stuff is getting to kids, I mean a 6 -14 year old should not have a cellphone in my opinion. Heck when I was in school I had to go to the office or find a payphone to call my parents to come get me after practice or because I was sick.

AMEN Lenny.  That and more and more parents are using TV's as babysitters.  When their input is constantly what they see on TV...what do you expect?

EDIT: Heck I remember BEGGING my parents for a Starter jacket and a Shark watch when I was in grade school.  By the time I got them, they were no longer 'cool'.  TV shows have commercials every few minutes and kids are faced with advertising from all angles.  Parents had a rough childhood and want to give their kids everything they never had.  And so it goes...

ok, trust me, with all of the damn pressures put on us to do good, to avoivd sex drugs etc. constant peer pressure into things we dont want to do, and dont even get me started on the cliques, im about to go mentally insanse as well(not shooting up a school) but wanting to drop out

so yeah school is so much harder and there is so much more presure on us today
where should i start with the 30 hrs i work a week, with the 3- hours of homework a night?
or the constant fear of losing my truck inf my grades dip below a b?
staying clean even though my best friends smokes?
or the groups of kidsthat make your like hell becasue they think they are the sh*t? and think you are nothing?

EDIT: srry had to release all this pent up anger with life, mostly school and life on the home front, the only place i feel any joy is driving and sometimes at work

Amen to that! I get so sick of people talking about rights. Kids have rights not to be spanked...well you know what I say to that? MY kids have a right NOT to be shot to death by some kid who's parents couldn't smack his butt when he started throwing rocks at other kids when he was 5, and they couldn't smack his butt when he started shooting rabbits with a BB gun when he was 7, and they couldn't smack his butt started talking about "killing" a teacher who made him mad when he when he was 13.

My parents spanked me and I have yet to throw a rock at a kid, or shoot a BB gun at something, or threatened to kill someone and mean it. Obviously, spanking does it's job...and so what if it leaves your @$$ red for a day or two.

dude i rember if they said my full name my butt would be sore the next day, i got spanked, i turned out good, i dont do drugs or anything like that......
i plan on displaing my kids, they have thier own rights when they turn 18, not a second sooner, besides me and someone made them, so without us they would not be here, so they almost have no right agaisnt us, except for the really abd stuff(i probly made no sense)

If thats the stuff that everyone is worried about...  Peer pressure is only for those that succumb to it.  I had coke bottle thick glasses in high school.  I worked at least 4 hours every school night on my dad's farm, all through high school, limiting my involvement with sports or pretty much anything extracurricular.  I was a lowly farm boy and none of the "popular" kids liked me.  So what!  Big deal!  At least I knew the friends that I had were not two faced.  Did those "popular" kids make me mad sometimes?  Sure.  Did it affect my actions in things that mattered, HECK NO!  When they change you, they win.

It is YOUR life, don't let the petty motives of others dictate what you make of it!

One thing that my kids will not have is a free car.  I bought my Chevelle with money I worked hard to get and my parents paid for nothing of it.  I appreciated it instead of treating it like an appliance.  My kids will have the same experience!  If they're lucky, they'll find a muscle car (modern or classic) to work on like I did and I'll help them just like my father did.  That right there is the KEY!  My son's will be helping me with my Chevelle when they are ready, doing much the same thing that I did when I was growing up.

Parental involvement is what is severely lacking today.  Parents would much rather sit their kids down in front of a tv as not to bother them (the parents).  Get outside and work with your kids!  Be involved in their life instead of treating them like an inconvenience!

Um...  What's wrong with that?  I was trapping when I was 6!  Killed my fair share of squirrels and rabbits around the age  of 7-8 with either a BB gun or a 22...  Not to just kill them, I liked how they tasted!

One thing that brings me closer to my family is camping, we own an RV and go out several times a year. Me and my Dad go to louden NH to watch nascar every year. It's involvment that has kept me a good person. I just dont understand how people can let their kids be disrespectful all the time and do whatever they want and feel like its okay. I call those kids a waste of life, and the same goes for their parents. I think that everyone should be "tested" before they are allowed to raise a child...

That's better than most of the "here's the keys don't get arrested" parents out there.  There is no sense of responsibility with a situation like that.

I knew a kid when I was in college that had a new (1998) Porsche 911 Turbo.  Rolled it one weekend almost killing himself in the process.  The VERY next day his father had a new 2 door Mercedes AMG something or other delivered to him!  Wrecked that 3 days later.  I lost track of how many cars the kid went through before he failed out, but I can tell you that there wasn't a single one under $80K!  Just rediculous.
