I also have a '91 4.3 4dr blazer.  I have the the ticking problem too.  I've only had the truck for six weeks, so it hasn't aggravated me yet.  However, I've had one guy tell me he used Lucas oil treatment on his vehicle to solve the problem.  I'm gonna try it the next time I get an oil change, but honestly, it sounds too good to be true.

You're driving a chevy....valves tick

If it's bad, I'd play around with the oil a little...but every one i've ever ridden in has ticked.

Most of the time from my experience valves/lifters will tick once they get older, but that does not mean they are any less efficent or that anything is wrong with them. But it is annoying so I replaced my lifters on my talon tsi. On a blazer I have no Idea, probably a little bit of work and I don't know if you can get away with putting them in with a crow bar. Why did they ever put the intake manifold over everything, seams like everything on the  spider injector engine is ass-backwards. Now if you had an 88-89 TBI 4.3, mucheasier. What happend, arent vehicles supposed to get better with newer models? And why is the oxygen sensor impossible to get at, you have to rip half of the right wheel well off a 93 s10 blazer to get at it.

Are you putting 5w30 in? I don't have a tick but I've only got 150,000 miles.

I'd try thinner oil personally. 5W-30 sounds good. i think 20-50 would be a bit thick but it all depends on what the weather is like where you are.
