well i change my EGR valve......(which was a pain) and i recently found out today from my nifty repair manuel that you can check codes yourself........well it worked and i got a code 12. Which i beleve is saying it found nothings wrong. But it said if you get this wile the engine is running that it wasn't getting a reference pulse from distributor. But all it did when i turned my engine on was flash at me constantly (the check engine light that flashes at you, and tells you what codes have been stored).........but my truck is still burping. I see there is a code for the fuel pump(code 54) But if my fuel pump is behind all this trouble would it still give me a code 54?

basically i think my fuel pump is dieing and before i change it i would like to know if it's dieng or do i need a tune up?
