Baby oil is not a good thing to put on a dash. It would glare like crazy on a sunny day and that is never good. Personally, I like a clean dash over a shiny dash. I can't remember what it is I use to clean my dash... But it leaves a nice sheen that isn't really shiny, just looks clean and uniform. I need to dig my detailing stuff out of the basement soon anyway so I should be able to let you know what it is. If you are worried about cracks in the dash, most of the cleaners now on the market do not cause cracking. Some older products may have had a bad effect on older dash materials or dashes that were not properly taken care of previously.

Armorall Wipes Carry 'em in the back with the tow and repair stuff...then..dog drools on the dash? girlfriend spills a soda on the cup holder? leave the windows down on a windy pollen-y day? Gets that sucker clean at a red light!

I just use the spray glass cleaner and wipe it down with a towel. Yes you want to use a not shiny cleaner/conditoner as the shiny stuff will reflect really bad on a sunny day. Thats why dealerships are not supposed to make the dash all shiny when they sell you a car.

I thought glass cleaner will dry out the dash and plastic parts with continued use?

i work at a lexus dealership and detail cars there. depending on the glass cleaner that u use it will dry out the dash more quickly. we dont really use a shinning dash cleaner just more of a cleaner that gives it a little shine. its called "Meguires (sp?) quick interior detailer" that stuff works really good. it puts an extremely misty spray out and then we just wipe it down w/ some microfibers.
