for sand driving you should always have a shovel, air compressor, and dont drive too slow as you sink. you can even run down to 10psi in bad conditions. always drive in a high gear and not a low gear.

allterrains are better than mud tires or more aggresive tires in sand as you want to try and float on sand and not dig in....if ya air down you can get through most things...

Wow it looks like you started to get stuck and then proceeded to lay on the gas. I live on the beach and have helped pull out many tourists in their honda and mazda suvs, but you take the award for that one. How long did it take you to get out?

At least you had someone to help tow you out. Once my tranny problem is sorted a group of us are going to play on the sand dunes on a remote beach. We don't go there unless there is at least 4 trucks. Last time I went out the 4x4 would not kick in & had to be towed out. I was laying on the chassis with rear wheels spinning merrily. Turned out to be a perished vacuum line. I still only have road tyres but if my Grand Cherokee did it with road tyres then so should my Blazer. I hope to get a spare set of wheels with A/T tyres for offroad use.

Another tip most of you probably know but i'll mention anyway if you start to bury in 2 wheel drive and you stop to put it in 4 wheel drive you always want to try reverse first. Especially in sugar sand like that or the front will just bury out of sight.

The best tires for sand are slicks, you dont want tread dragging you into the sand you want to float.

I live pretty close to Daytona Beach...That beach sand is really fine sometimes...Although I haven't been stuck out there, I have helped ppl get out. I know everyone knows this, but the wider the better. The best I ever had was a set of pretty much bald a/t's on my full size p/u. They would spin alot but they wouldn't dig down..Alot of fun doing donuts too! 2 wheel drive got me pretty much anywhere in the sand.
