It's a sad sad day for my dirty girl.....after paying $50 or so for a tank of gas....I decided that even 0.05 mpg better would be worth it....so no more 72 inches of large freight carrying, rackalicious, ticket earning roof rack....my truck looks....well....plain...how am I going to find it in a parking lot? *sigh* I figure 20 minutes of hassle to get it on and off is worth it...so no more full time roof rack...

but....it did motivate me to change my air filter..fill up my tires (getting new ones next week)...getting the radiator flushed this week....and with my dad's discount..my bonus from work..and a little elbow grease from me...new fuel pump!!! better gas millage here I come!!!

So what mods or actions have any of you taken to save a few 0.05mpg???

Run the tires at 40 psi instead of 35

Draft with 18 wheelers on the highway...tell the girlfriend to drive...run of the mill stuff!

Roof racks definitely kill gas milage though...I think you'll get a bit more gain than .05..

I lost 2 full mpg's with the roof rack...but I get way more use out of it than would warrant taking it on and off again.. (also it lets me park in the 'over clearence' spots in the parking decks which are bottom floor and close to everything )

I stopped driving the Blazer and now drive a toyota pickup to get good gas mileage. Only because my husband wrecked my truck.

Hey pddle_girl, how ya been? As for mods? the only thing I've done is add a hundred pounds of sound deadener so I can't hear my mud tires any more :) I'm not sure it's helping the gas milage much though.

I now only drive my blazer 5 blocks to the train station and back. Hate to leave her parked there all day but work gets me a yearly train pass for $40. Not to much to think over $200 a month to drive to work or $40 a year to ride a train.
Kinda funny everytime gas goes up a nickle the train fills up more. Today coming home was standing room only, their going to
have to add cars soon or I'll have to use my new toy to clear some space....
Oh yea, my new toy:

I think I'm leaving my brush guard off when I hit the highways...

I might pick up some less agressive street tires for when I'm not playing in the mud...

if your truck is older try replacing the EGR valve........of course the part alone is like $100 so don't know if it would help in the long run. But my Horse is stuck for now(no insurance) so i have been driving my dads manuel ford

Lights won't make much difference.  Unless you put up 8'' round air brakes...then they might have a minor effect...The problem with a roof rack is that it is right in the slip stream flowing over the truck...lights should let the air flow around without much obstruction.

tommyd.....Where the heck have you been??? Sheesh!

um wolf pack....this thread is about what people have done to improve gas milage.....so just settle down...it'll be ok...

as for the whole gas thing....I was yacking about how I didn't care how much gas got because I was just going to drive any ways...screw em!.....yeah...well....I'll still drive....but..well.....every little bit of gas milage helps...I haven't had to cut into the food/cigarette supply yet...I'd like to keep it that way for a while...besides...I can't freaking believe how QUIET..my truck is....wow....72" created a lot of wind noise...it's an experiment...if it doesn't change my mpg...I'll toss the ol rack back on....

my apologies.  I was just trying to stop it before everyone and their fish decided to post up how many miles per gallon they get and why the money is justified.

I am interested to see if you get an increase in mileage though...I feel like a full size blazer is already less than aerodynamic...so it's going to beast through the wind resistance with or without the rack
