those google ads bring in little to nothing. and then ones after popst are the same. and if it makes the site a ton less enjoyable is it worth it. I mean this is worse than those "free forum" sites that they give out like angelfire sites or whatever.

I used to run a free website proxy so that people can use myspace at home and i made pretty good money. But still a simple for community doesn't cost more than 20 bucks a month to run.

This forum is run by a larger company that owns a bunch of forums(http://www.autoforumuniverse.com/). They also own Mustangforum.com, one of the largest automotive forums in existance. It's setup to make money, period. Really, it's just something you'll have to deal with unless you guys care to all make a move to another ad-free forum.

Jigg is right, I have heard it straight from Patrick on another forum owned by AFU that I frequent, that AFU's owners have approved the ads and that it is here to stay. Do I like it? No, but I like the forums and the people on them (for the most part ) so.... ads here or gone I will stay.

Pretty much strait from Patrick He said exactly: quote:
ORIGINAL: Patrick Those are unfortunately out of my hands. Its annoying. Bottom line, but as the AFU family of forums grows, its got to happen. I just don't know why it hasn't happened sooner. From what I heard, all the AFU forums combined have 300,000 registered users active and about 3x that amount of guests that use the forums regularly. Thats a lot of upkeep on the servers, and a lot of software update packages that have to be paid for. They are not exactly non-profit either

As paddle_grl said, get Firefox 2.0, and download the Ad Block Plus add-on. Firefox 2.0 then download and install Ad Block Plus
