Definitely looks like they popped the top.  Hard to tell from the pictures if they used jaws.  I can do it almost as fast with the sawsall we have on our rescue.  A good demo blade and I can have a top off in under 10 minutes, removing glass and all.  We always start with the sawsall first and then transition over to the jaws once they are up and running.  The sawsall is just quicker to access and use.

Yeah, I have a pic where they have the jaws of life on the drivers door somewhere....I owe my life to those firefighters in the pics. Let me see if I can find the one with the roof off. Firefighters rule. I think the police office told me (after I woke up a month later) that they arrived 4 minutes after the initial call...Freakin amazing at 4:30am...

JAWS OF LIFE
I'm sure you've seen your share of bad accidents, Kyle! What do you guys use, a battery powered sawz-all? I have a milwaukee, and the battery lasts me all day..28 volts...

We have a 24V Dewalt.  One battery to get going while the generator starts up to power the AC adapter.  Its surprising how long it will last, but I can definitely wear down a battery while cutting off a roof.  We don't have jaws right now, but will when our new truck arrives (mid next year provided we can all agree on what it should and should not have).  Right now we have to call mutual aid when it comes down to getting jaws, but as I said, I can have a roof off faster with the sawsall than I can waiting for the jaws unless they are called at almost the same time we are.

You are probably better off that it happened in the middle of the night than during the day, but yeah, we like to get there as fast as possible.  Our average response time last year was 6 minutes flat.  Fastest was 10 seconds!  We were already out driving the trucks around for driver training and practically watched the wreck happen!  truck operator - "Fayette 402 to KED758" - dispatch - "KED758 on for 402" - TO - "402 with full crew on scene" - D - "Copy, 402 enroute, on scene at 1842".

Karin could tell you a lot more stories, but I have seen my share of hairy wrecks.

LMAO!!! Not a drifter.....I was young and got a heck of a deal on it...Funny thing is, is that I had just got it back from the body shop the week before! Some a-hole ran a stop light right in front of me and banged it up pretty good. Looked brand new when I got it back. 120 in a 35 is highly not recommended. Needless to say, I have slowed down considerably since.

I need to put the pics my husband took of his wrecked 240sx on the computer and post them. Not nearly as bad as yours, but totalled definately, and worse I think because of the amount of money he'd put into the thing.

The most odd thing about the whole deal is that it was a straight road...To be honest with you, the only thing I remember from that night was leaving the river where I was at. The doctors say that I went into shock and my brain kinda shut out the whole incident. List of injuries include: 2 collapsed lungs, broken ribs, bruised heart, lacerated liver, crushed heel(calcaneus), my femur bone went through the back of my hip socket shattering my hip, and a bruised pancreas. I suggest to all speed demons out there to slow down, you never know what might happen, I still don't.

I ache every day, which will only get worse with age. The screws and plates somehow make it to where I can feel rain coming an hour or two before it gets here, other than that, I'm ok. I have a little bit of nerve damage to where the outside of my leg and the inside of my foot are numb too, but that's it.

Man glad you made it.  Luckily I haven't been to an accident that bad yet.   I have been to my share of them though.  As for my dept. we have two sets of jaws.  Zasder if you want to move to Illinois we are looking for more young guys to join.  I'm it would be worth the ten bucks a call for you.

man that could've been alot worse for you

Not realy it is ALOT harder to become an EMT then a firefighter, first (this is for indiana) you have to take Firefighter 1 and 2 they take a couple of weeks. Then you train ,train some more and then take a test (written and skills) Then you have to be 18 and after your on the department it's all about getting certified on your departments vehicles (Tankers, engines, Ladder trucks, grass rigs etc)

But keep in mind. being certified on a vehicle doesn't mean you can drive it(@ least in indiana) you have to be 21 and do a glorified drivers ed skills test

As far as becoming a firefighter vs. an EMT, true, the requirements to start are similar, time wise.  However, it is MUCH easier to remain a firefighter than it is to remain an EMT.  In NY, there are annual requalification tests for EMTs.  Individual departments have monthly training to keep up on the core skills, but it isn't anything like being an EMT.
