Well everyone, the Blazer made the trip in good order. It pulled the Cargo trailer without any problem. So we are back home in good order.

Now the question. I was headed up Spring Mountain, this is a hard pull, of about 8 miles. The Blazer shifted clear down to 2nd gear to pull this pass. I was running along in 2nd gear @ 3000 RPM it seemed to want to run there pretty easy. Well, as I got into the pull about 1/2 miles the engine was running about 3200 RPM & all of a sudden I hear a knocking & thought I lost a rod. I let off the throttle, knocking slowed down with the engine RPMs, at at about 2500 RPMs the knock quit & I took the RPM up to 3000 RPMs the knock was gone. It did it one more time, exactly the same way. Both were on the steepest parts of this hill. I knew it wasn't a rod knock because it would of blew, not get quiet. Well I drove over the mountain and into town 35 miles away & it ran great. When in town I tried to repeat it by taking it over 3 grand in 1st, & 2nd gears manually NO NOISE. I tried it again going trough the gear letting it shift it self, the same result. It really baffled me. It sounded just like a rod knocking. My only thought was maybe a lifter collapsed under heavy load, then when I let off it it pumped up. No engine code lights, it runs good. In fact I checked mileage, the first 70 miles it got 15.5 MPG, on the rest of the trip 110 miles it got 13.5 MPG. So we were real pleased with mileage. So nothing too serious can be wrong. I have got 19.5 MPH running 70-75 MPH on the freeway empty.
Anyone have any input on this.
Thanks for everyones thoughts & wishes. I have a lot more confidence in the Blazer now. It is a keeper, I'll just fix whatever.
This trip was important to us because we are moving back to Nevada in 3 weeks. We have 2 trucks, 2 trailers, & a car, plus my Ninja. So getting my bike & trailer along with the Blazer moved was a great relief to me.
Again any input would be greatly appreciated.

No answers at all? I have talked to a few guys & the thought was possible spark knock. Anyone, out there?

Tranny appears to be fine, With a tranny slipping the RPMs I believe would of not stayed right on 3000 RPMs. It shifts real good. Thanks for the thought, I'll check it out a little closer.

The other reason why people aren't posting is because they probably don't know the Forum's back online.  It had a hiccup for a few days.  I'm sure you'll get more responses soon.

I'm wondering if the knocking just means that your fuel system should be cleaned, especially since it only happened while under a lot of stress.

I remember when you posted before the trip, and I'm glad to see you made it back okay!

There seems to be a general thought by those I have talked to, is that fuel, spark knock, are most likely the issue. A few thoughts were to run some higher octane fuel through it. I have run techron trough it. Thanks for the responses. I will be off line for a while, because we are moving. I'm not sure how soon I will get back but will return once we get settled sometime this summer.
