Got off work tonight and decided to check out the night scene that started this year at the US National Whitewater Center a few miles from the house.  I have been coming out here at least once a week during the warm months since it opened a couple of years ago, but never took the time to take pictures.  Not the greatest pics since I was using high iso's on some and I didn't have it on the tripod for others, but figured I would share anyway.  If you want descriptions go to my flickr page.

Is it a practice facility, or a place to go and have fun?

Both.  Most the time it is a place to go and have fun.  The US Olympic teams all practice here sometimes during the year.  It's a big event to come watch the pros practice.

They also have 13 miles of Bike trails (which is what the dog and I walk through every week), bike rentals, Wall climbing, River kayaking, and beer. :D

Beautiful pictures...deffinately like the slow speed with the white water on the one pic....I wish we had one of those in Michigan...I'd have my canoe permanently strapped to my roof..going every day....ah well....I'll guess I'll have to stick to the regular rivers...those white water parks are cool as heck though!

Didn't know until I looked at the page ( http://www.usnwc.org/Organization.html ), but it seems to be a non-profit.  I know they didn't make enough money in the first two years to efficiently run the park, so they have started charging parking this year ($35 a year) and having these night events on Thursday to get some buisness.  I didn't mind having to pay since I have used this place free of charge for a couple of years now.  Only fair to pay something.

You should, it is worth the ride up (but bring some money, it's not cheap to enter the water).  There are plenty of cheap places to stay in the area that are nice.

The rapids don't look large in the pics but they can adjust them to any class rapid and some areas stay class 4 and they adjust to class 5 sometimes of the day (what a guide told me, facts not guaranteed :D ).  I have been dying to get some friends up to actually hit the rapids since I haven't been rafting in years, but so far no one is interested.  I just stick to renting a kayak and hitting the river up until some friends pony up the money to hit the rapids with me.

oh and here is a google earth of the place since I they recently updated the maps and actually showing it instead of a bunch of trees.
