PhatDRock -> Question (Offset) Related (5/27/2008 10:54:27 AM)

Hello all, new to the site. I have a 97' Blazer 4WD Blazer and have researched my the tires-wheels combo I'm needing thoroughly. There's only a couple of things I've not been able to find out. What exactly is the offset range that I'm looking to get for my ride? Also, what is the difference I need to be looking for as far as 4WD vs. 2WD, as with tire-rim sizes?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Aftermarket wheels for a 4wd blazer is in the range of +35mm to +42mm.... You want to stay within that range because anything lower than +35mm will stick out of the fenders. 4wd blazers have the same offsets as front wheel drive vehicles. And if backspacing is all you can find then you shouldn't go any lower than 5" because stock is 6". Unless you are lifting it, then you can go as low as 4.5" but you might have some rubbing issues.

Thanks for the info and reply. What if you don't mind the tires sticking out past the fender a little bit??

Define "a little bit"...?  Do you mind "a little bit" of rubbing?

PhatDRock -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/8/2008 10:55:56 AM)

Yeah actually I do mind the rubbing. What I meant was sticking out wider than the fender not rubbing against it.

flarvin -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/10/2008 7:10:31 PM)

i had offset american racing baja rims for my s10. i had to buy 29" tires cause thats all i could fit under there to drive it out of the tire shop unless i lifted it on the spot. the front wheels would not turn with my 31"s on. and they still rubbed with the 29"s until i maxed the torsion bars out. and when i drove down muddy roads mud would fly into the cab through the windows and onto the roof. it would get pretty messy. eventually i got pulled over and the cops said i need some bigger fender flairs. then someone crashed into my truck when it was parked and bent the rear axle and leaf spring because the tires was sticking out so far. it was all bad just stay with the stock offset listen to nj4x4blaze...

Hence the recommendation to run teh stock backspacing.

Even with the stock backspacing the largest tire you can fit is 30", you cna fit 31" tires with 2" of lift.

Right on!

PhatDRock -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/19/2008 10:09:44 AM)

So a set of 245/75/17" would not fit under it??

swartlkk -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/19/2008 10:17:04 AM)

A 245/75R17 is a 9.65" wide tire with an OD of 31.5".  You would need to crank your t-bars and do a 2" body lift to clear 31.5" tires with stock BS rims and NO rubbing.

PhatDRock -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/19/2008 10:33:12 AM)

The rims are not stock they''re custom, aftermarket 17" wheels.

swartlkk -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/19/2008 10:37:03 AM)

Notice I did not say stock rims, but rather stock BS rims (ie stock back spacing).  Push the wheels out further and you will get rubs at steering lock (full turning in either direction).  Stock back spacing (as already mentioned above and in NUMEROUS other threads discussing this exact topic - search works btw) is 6".  If you increase the tire diameter as well as decrease the back spacing, you are asking for interference between the tire and the frame when the steering goes to the lock in either direction.

PhatDRock -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/19/2008 11:16:06 AM)

Thanks so much for the info, the rims I got have a BS of +35. I''m currently in contact with the tire company to see if I can''t get my order changed. They''re going to make more money from me downsizing, anyways.

PhatDRock -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/27/2008 6:58:09 PM)

Would a set of 255/65/17 work on a stock suspension?? That would make the diameter of the tire 30.1 inches. Also will the bolt pattern 5x120 work for a 4WD blazer?? Any help would be appreciated.

swartlkk -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/27/2008 7:18:38 PM)

5x4.75 works out to be 5x120.6mm so yes, a 5x120 rim should work.  You will want to verify that the rim is a hub centric rim, meaning that it locates (centers) on the hub and not on the studs.  Using the hub to center on takes quite a bit of load off of the studs.

1fastls1ss -> RE: Question (Offset) Related (6/27/2008 7:45:16 PM)

I put 2wd blazer rims on my 4x4 with 30x9.50 tires, and all I had to do is crank the t bars slightly and beat the lower fender in at the factory bolt and I have absolutely NO rubbing issues at all on and off road.
