How tight are you tightening down the valve cover bolts?

well im tighting them almost till i cant turn the bolt anymore

way way way too much. just enough to compress the gasket. the torque spec is something very low. like 10 ft pounds. i don''t have a haynes manual, maybe someone else does. make sure sure all the bolts line up. if you''re having troubles keeping it in place, dab some RTV gasket maker on the gasket and let it tack up so the gasket sticks to the valve cover. then put it on.

Definitely way too much.

If you have center bolt valve covers (which I think you do, but please put your vehicle information in your signature), then the torque required for the bolts is 106 inlbs (or pretty close to 10 ftlbs as The Slacker stated).  That is just barely snug with a 1/4" ratchet.

Basically, by over tightening the bolts, you are squeezing the gasket out, causing the leaks.

alright well i guess im off to get another gasket and try it that way thanks guys
