Sup Blazer driving friends, what has been new around here?

Just posting up since I am taking a break from cleaning out 240 emails and 20 somethings voice mails here at work.  We Had a fantastic trip and it''s sorta sad to be coming back to work, but are already making plans to go back next year.

I hope to get some pictures up this week to all my forums, but when you have to go through 2400 pictures it can take a while.  I do have some up on my Flickr (in my sig) though if you just can''t wait.

I have learned one big lesson on the trip, after paying almost $11 a gallon for gas....I am no longer complaining about $4 a gallon.

Well and the second is I can''t spend 3 weeks with the mother-n-law and sister-n-law without wanting to kill something/someone.

Good to have ya back.

And yeah, I totally feel you with the in-laws. My mother and father-in-law have since passed on but my sister-in-law brings out a homicidal side of me as well. I''m wound tighter than a drum after she goes home.

Well, I actually get along with her parents pretty much.  And her mom paid for half the trip, so I can''t say anything other then she is just getting a little crazy in her older age and after a while it just wears on you. lol

Now her sister is about 75% bitch, so I can only deal with her in small doses.

Where have you been in Greece? they are next door to us:)

Mainly went to tour and see my wife''s family.  We stayed in Athens with her Aunt and Uncle for the first 4 days. During that time we went to the Sites/museums/Cafes in Athens, Saw family that dropped by, watched the Euro cup and listened to the yelling of people all over the local part of the city because they were all watching Greece get rocked, then took a road trip to see the ruins at Delphi and the village of Livadia (which was an awesome town with the best Souvlaki).

After a night back in Athens we took a road trip and visited the area where the Battle of Thermopylae (remembered by most from the movie 300), left there and went through Trikala on the way to Meteora where we visited the monasteries. We stayed a night at Kallabaka, then went to Karpenisi where my wifes parents are from (well they are from small villages about an hour or two drive into the mountains, but since Karpenisi is the largest village thats where her mom says she''s from), got to see old Yaya''s that remember her mom and dad growing up and got to see whats left of their houses (which they still own the land for and we hope some gets passed to us), After staying a couple of nights touring the most amazing mountain ranges I have ever seen, the most insane scarry roads I have ever seen, and visiting family we headed back toward Athens stopping by Lamia for a short stay before hitting the drive back to Athens.

Hung out with her cousins for a day or so, then hopped on a Ferry and went to Crete for 4 days. During that time we stayed outside of Iraklio, Drove down to Matala for a day of snorkling, Spent some time at the Palace of Knossos, hit up Pithari and Souda on the other end of the island, drove out to Kastelli and saw the cave were Zeus was born/raised (which was an insane drive up roads 3000 feet up that were probably never meant for a car), and back to Iraklio to hang at the beach for some time.

Hopped another Ferry and hit up Thira (Santorini) for 2 days, visited the most photographed areas in the world (or greece I forget which), Shopped and tried the beachs, but didn''t have any luck with that, we did have more luck clif diving though.

We left there and headed back to Athens to party with her Cousin for a couple of nights, and spent some time with my cousin who had just happened to just move there the day before (her husband is the new Navy intelligence ambassador for the US navy to Greece) and then spent 20 hours in an Airplane/airport trying to get home.

Her sister and her husband are still there in Spetses and got to go to Hydra before we got there. The trip was great and I can''t wait to go back, but was completely and utterly sick of her family (mainly mom and sister, her aunt and uncle were cool as hell) by the time we were heading back. The driving there is insane. It was not surprising for me to be doing twice the posted speedlimit and get passed by a bus on a double yellow (er white) on a two lane road with other cars coming the other way having to jump on the shoulder to keep from hitting him. This type of driving was constant the whole 5 hour cruise into Greece and around Crete. Of course speeding up would have been the proper thing to do had her mom not been in the back yelling the entire drive yelling the whole time.

We are planning to try to go back next year and staying with my Cousin and her Husband, but since they have to be escorted around in armored cars, I''m not sure how well that will work. At any rate there is still her aunt and Uncle to crash with.

Sounds like a fan to me :)

I live in Istanbul / Turkey, my grand parents are from Thesellonika ( while it was Ottoman soil). We have mutual culture in the both side of water.
Did you try "Dolmaki" , " Ouzo" etc. traditional foods?

Sure have.  I''m lucky my wife''s mom cooks a lot.  I have some Ouzo, Raki, and some berry vodka I had brought back.
