Buckle up and hold on tight! 1.5 years of planning and it is over in one night. Our wedding was just over 2 years ago now. Things I would do differently if I had the chance: -Splurge for high quality photographer/videographer (have a DVD made of the ceremony and reception). -Along the same lines, have your shots planned out with your photographer beforehand so he/she can just go down the list and you will not forget what you wanted the day of. -NO boyfriends/girlfriends in family photos. My Mother-in-law was dating someone and now he is forever in our family photo despite them not dating any longer. -Ask a friend to serve alcohol instead of hiring a bartender. -RESEARCH your DJ if you are planning on having one, otherwise I would just burn a CD with songs you want playing at the reception. The following is more advice than things I would do over: -When you make your registry (if you are going that route), do not go crazy and put the most expensive kind of an item (dishes, vacuum, etc.) just because someone else is buying it. We invited my old boss from NJ who still employs my Mother and they made a comment about our registry list being very affordable and how it showed we were not greedy like most of the weddings they had been to. They ended up giving us a $500 check! -Make sure you have someone to take back your tuxes the next day. My Brother was my best man but he returned to NJ the day after our wedding. Luckily a good friend took care of it for me. -Call around for the best deals! -Make sure she is happy. Flowers, dress colors, whatever. Make sure she will be able to look back on your wedding day and smile instead of saying "We should have..." or "We could have..." -Yes it is "her" day, but that does not mean you cannot be part of planning/making sure everything is right. Heck, I was the one that did most of the planning due to her organizational skills. -No matter what, you MUST smash cake in her face. EVEN IF she BEGS you not to! EDIT: Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congrats. Get ready for some of the best fights of your relationship. The wife and I got into more of the biggest knock down drag out fights during the last 8 months of planning, then we did the 5 years we dated. It''s all good memeries now though and I''m sure part of it was because we had also moved in together.

That really depends on the girl. My Wife, then GF at the time, grew up in the mountains and never really got to spend time on the beach. We also had our first kiss on the beach under some impromptu fireworks (I kid you not). It was only natural to propose in a beach setting. I had prepped myself for that night by going out there a couple times before to desensitize her. When the night came for me to propose she did not think anything of it and it was a huge surprise. Plus it was meaningful because of all the memories we had at the beach. @Millertime-It is ok to be cheesy if that is your style. Try and think of a common bond that you two will remember forever. To this day, everytime we go to visit my parents in NJ she wants to make a stop at the lighthouse because it is special to her.

bah....a yeah and a half??? plenty of time...the biggest thing to remember....Just let her and her mother do what girls do...just show up in your tux and enjoy the day...you have the easy part! I got engaged on May 29...and now the wedding is only 10 weeks away...try planning a wedding in three months! (the agony is over so much faster ) I include the man on things...he is just happy I''m keeping the wedding small..he really doesn''t care about the wedding other than we can''t wait to be together... Congrats to you! I hope every thing goes great! As far as proposing goes...definitely make it something you both can remember and smile about..doesn''t have to be supper expensive or some big plot...just wait for the moment and ask...(on top of a mountain maybe? Worked for me!)

Yeah for the proposal I took her on a picnic at our favorite park. We then went on a nice long hike when we were half way done with the hike I waited behind to see how long she would notice. (About 10 seconds) Then I acted like I found something interesting and got down on one knee and asked her.
