ok so i brought my 1998 Blazer LS to get it thru the emissions inspections and i failed. The results show im running codes P0452 and P1870. They said i failed because the 452 code which reads Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/switch Low. I dont have a whole lot of cash to spend on a mechanic (since i still need to register the vehicle by friday before i get charged more.. which sucks..) So i was wondering if this is something i can fix myself. It just seems like something needs to be replaced and im no mechanic but i know my way around a car so im pretty confident in my ability to do it and save the money.

Ok starting with the 452 it looks as if it could be pressure related. I did recently replace the gas cap because it was loose, could this be a condition to set off the code? As for the 1870 code, I didnt really understand it so i think im stuck to bringing it to a shop

It doesn''t solve the problem, but what I did was stop by the closest AZ to the emissions testing station and ask them to clear the codes for me or that I would just have to rent the obdII tester to do it myself,  they did oblige and passed my emissions test.

Interesting.  They must not plug in...  When you clear the codes, it also resets the emissions monitors which requires a completed drive cycle (or many drive cycles) to go from "not ready" to "ready".
