Hello, I had my digital volt meter installed in a gauge pod, and when it was first installed, it was wired to my fuse box, with a "Little Fuse" add a line.  The gauge was working fine, the only problem was that it was not giving an accurate reading.  The normal voltage without having any accesories on, was about 13.8 volts.  The real voltage at my battery was 14 and higher.  So recently, I had someone wire it directly to the ignition, but I don''t know exactly how.  Now, the voltage reading on the gauge is lower than ever.  It normally reads about 13.4-13.5, and it gets even worse when I run accesories.  Does anyone know how to wire this gauge correctly, so that it gives an accurate reading?  I thought about having it wired to the battery, but then I know it will always be on.  I have also heard about having it wired with a switch to the battery, but I still don''t think that is the right way.  Please let me know if you have any ideas.

That sounds good, but I think that it would turn off when I turn off my radio, wouldn''t it?

Sometimes you have to have the meter calibrated or adjusted.

you may have to small of wire ran to the place your trying to read.  sometimes too small of wire will create a voltage drop and you can get an inaccurate reading.  Maybe try a larger dia wire.  You could wire it with a switch to the battery but the switch will also create a small voltage drop.

Ok, thanks guys.  Now at least I have some options to play around with, to see which gives the best reading.

when it comes to electral problems always check the ground first. wire diameter shouldnt affect it because it pulls very little amperage. try another 12v accessory spot in the fuse box see if the reading is diffrent or just connect it straight to the battery to see if the reading is the same as a hand held volt meter. hope this helps:P

Yea, I know.  I''''m gonna run a few tests by running the wire to the battery, on the outside of the truck, and if that works, I''''ll just put a switch on it.  If that doesn''''t work, then I''''ll try running it directly to the amplifier on my sound system.  Thanks.
