I think it would still be worth it to go to court.

Also, check out the related threads below. HAHAHA, I can edit it after I post the picture. UNBELIEVABLE! Also, he is probably counting on you not showing up to court and just paying the ticket since you live out of state.

Yep..biggest problem is going to be you need to either a) drive back to GA for court, or b) pay for a lawyer to appear on your behalf. A couple of things since you seem to be a bit new to traffic court : 1. The best defense is that this is your first offense. In NC we have the option to plead for a prayer for judgment (PJC). Basically your ''sentence'' is continued (postponed) for 3 years. If you have no other violations in 3 years, the charge is completely dropped from your record. Usually a good out for your first offense. 2. It doesnt matter you were on a hill...its your job as a driver to control vehicle speed..I wouldnt suggest pointing that out. 3. As for your parents...try and point out that its a traffic violation. Take responsibility for your speeding, and just ask for their help in taking care of it. Worst case is your insurance will go up.. 4. There are 2 types of warnings. You can get a written warning that stays in the system, and you get a little postcard thing listing what you did, and that if you do it again you will be cited. Then there are verbal warnings, which means the cop feels bad for you, and says slow your butt down. Neither is required, and dollars to donuts you WILL NOT get a warning for 20 over. In NC, 20 over can get you handcuffs and an impounded vehicle. 5. I''m no lawyer, just speaking from my own experience, so do not take this as sound legal advice.

You got lucky because iirc in NE, 18+ counts as wreckless driving which is bad and a lot of points

Saying that you just got your license I don''t know how old you are, but if you are under 18 in ohio you can loose your drivers license on the first offense. I would try to go to court with it, if your lucky all you will have is the court costs, which would be a lot cheaper than paying the fine. I was lucky and got a written warning for 86 in a 55 (don''t ask my how I have no clue). But in Ohio if you are 20 over they view it as a felony and you will be arrested, car impounded, and loose your license.

I got a 15-over ticket once. The ticket would have been $169. I had the option to do defensive driving and remove the ticket from my record and maintain the same insurance rate. I still had to pay $100 "court fee"... It was a little waiting room with 3 or 4 desks on one side. You simply walk up to the desk and show them your ticket and they tell you your options. It took literally less than 5 minutes but apparently our city can justify $20/minute for that ''advice''. Defensive driving costs $25 (at least in TX) so instead of $169, I paid $125 and kept a clean record. TX doesn''t have a "points" system (at least that I''m aware of) so I''m not really sure how that works... I would be honest and tell your parents.

And I''m sure your parents have gotten a ticket, and if they havn''t someone they know has. It''s really not that serious, it just costs money to fix

I got a ticket for running a red light about a 2 onths ago and i went to court about a month ago. It was 3 points on my license, but since I went to court they dropped the points and I had to pay $160 fine.

I''d just pay the fine, it''s not worth the hassle of fighting it. I remember when I got my first ticket I wanted to fight it and all that but yeah I came to realize that by the time u take the time off and drive to make your appearance in court it''s just not worth it. I just got a ticket 3 weeks ago thought I was doing close to the speed limit (85 in an 80 km/h zone) but didn''t realize that I turned off into a construction zone. Barely finished accelerating before the bastard ran out from under the bridge. So I got a 35 over ticket except that it was in a construction zone so I got double fined... $ 441.00... that hurts.

I agree with just paying it now...but when I got my first ticket at 17, I wanted to fight it just because of the insurance risk. I came out ahead BY FAR by fighting it and getting it dropped to a 1 ins. point ''unsafe movement''. No insurance raise.

I think the easiest way to get out of a ticket is to take it to court , then cancel on them the day before and say you cant come and rechedule it, since the cop took off work for the first one he probably wont for the second. Also im 17 and have had a verbal warning for doing 67 in a 35, written warning for parking were not permitted, and a ticket for doin 75 in a 55 but i got out of it, by doing what i said above.

OK...first in NC you can get a Prayer for Judgement the first time....then you get a chance to go to Traffic School the next time...then, atleast State Farm GIVES you a giveme for the first ticket so nothing happens until the fourth ticket in NC....THAT being said...If you cannot do a PFJ or School...GET A LAWYER...it might cost you 400 bucks or so...but the lawyer WILL get you off or reduced to a equipment malfuction with no points....if you go yourself you WILL get charged, pay the fine, court fee AND have to pay for an increase in your insurance for THREE years...worth it to get the lawyer to get you off.
