Is there anything I can do to make my stock 85 Blazer have more power.  On the freeway I have the pedal to the metal and I sit there and wait for the thing to get up to speed, it is rediculously slow. I have had the truck for a few months and it is the most slugish car I have ever owned.  It is the 2.8 L V6 but come on it is weak.  I think the truck has 240,000 miles on it.

Had compression checked at a shop and they said it was fine, but I think they meant all cylinders are about the same, they didn''t say what the compression was.  What should the compression be anyway?  Recently had a tune up done and an oil change.  Also had a brand new timing chain put on, but that made no difference.

Is it something with the carb?  Vent hoses?  Fuel, fuel pump, fuel filters?  Exhaust manifold leak?

I used to have an ''85 S10 4x4 2.8L and it too was a dog no matter what I did to it.  It is the anemic 2.8.  Nothing that can be done but toss the engine aside and do a 3.1 or 3.4 swap.  You could go all out and get a different transmission for a v8 swap as well, but that isn''t as easy as putting a larger 60 degree v6 in.

On the flip side to this I put in a pro-built stock 2.8 in my ''86 4x4 about 2 years ago and now have just over 30k kms. on it and it runs just fine. There seems to be ample power, bogs a little on long hills but over-all I''m happy with the outcome. The one thing I wish I had was a 5th. gear. Going 80kph. it seems to be revving pretty high.
