So last night I started driving home from work when I pulled up to a stop light.  When it turned green I pressed the gas pedal and it seemed like the front tires wouldnt move at all and we just dragging.  So I pulled into the closest parking lot and it sounded like you could hear a belt grinding against something.  I turned the car off and back on and put the car into reverse and nothing would happen.  The engine would rev up but the car just seemed to be in neutral.  Anybody have any idea what could be wrong?? Thanks for your help.

does the truck roll if you push by hand??  if so do you hear any noises? if you put it in gear and try to back up or go forwards, does the truck even feel like its jumping like a tranny slipping??If it doesnt roll when pushed by hand then it almost sounds like a caliper froze and it locked up your brakes...

Yikes! Any warning lights? Did you check your belt? Were you in 4hi/4lo? How is your tranny fluid?

So it tries to go forward, but won''t do anything in reverse?  Wonder if the linkage is out of alignment, not getting into reverse properly.

Definitely try putting it in neutral and pushing it.  If a brake is hung up, it probably will not move.  If that is the case, then from there you can jack up the vehicle and check each wheel for rotation.
