For a PC?  I used to use PowerDVD on my laptop, but now I am just using Media Player Classic.  Nice, lite, and free!  With the appropriate codecs, it can play just about anything.

Ah so you want a DVD Ripper.  Ok.  DVD Shrink had always worked for me before for making backup copies of DVDs, but I do not think it is under development any longer.  You may need to get AnyDVD (costs $) for DVD Shrink to work with newer movies.

As far as getting the movies to your Zune, check out this page that turned up from google with "DVD to Zune" as the search criteria.

Movavi video converter suite.  Costs like 10 bucks, but it''s worth it.  Works flawlessly with Zune.

I''ll leave the questionable legality up to you.  You''re only allowed one digital backup of each purchased DVD.  Modifiying from the original version (stripping the subtitles/extras for the Zune) also qualifies as infringement.
