My mother has a 2000 blazer. It started to overheat. My father changed the thermostat in it and it did not help anything. Last year she had the heater core replaced because she did not have any heat. After replacing, she did not have any heat. I spoke with her today and took a look under the hood. I realized that the mechanic put the dexcool back in it. The coolant does not look to healthy. It is not oil and coolant mixed, but it does look rusty. I am planning to get rid of the dexcool and also get the garden hose flushing kit from the store. I have a slight concern with the flushing though. When I drove it this weekend, I noticed a coolant smell inside the cabin, not good. I am thinking it may be a clogged and leaking heater core AGAIN! Any suggestions on what I should do? Is there some type of caustic flush the radiator shop can do? Any help would be appreciated.

Scroll down in the general chat forum and look at the Dex-cool class action law suit. They have heater core listed for a reason of a lawsuit. You may be able to get your moms ''00 blazer in even though it says 7 years from purchase date. They are reimbursing people for a number of problems with dexcool so I''d try and find a way to get more info on it so maybe you can get the Blazer repaired for free

I did see that and will be converting her truck to the regular coolant. We both have blazers and I was unaware that she was still running that garbage. I have been through all the dexcool issues with my own blazer. That stuff will really eat some intake gaskets! Any suggestions otherewise? Thanks.
