I have a click that happens when I turn the steering wheel in either direction. It is multiple clicks. For example if I turn the steering wheel to the right or left 45 degrees I will probably get 5-10 clicks. This happens with the car running and not running. I followed the shaft down on the inside to the firewall and it seems to be right in that area. I could be imagining this but it seems to have started right around the time I replaced my front left hub assembly. Now that I think of it, when jacking the truck up and spinning the tire I just replaced the hub assembly on there is a clicking sound there as well. Could I have damaged something when replacing the hub or possibly it is not seating correctly?

Is the clicking coming right out of the steering wheel. Does the steering lock device work, that locks your wheel when the key is out. Its possible its is partly broken.

I can feel the clicks in the steering wheel but the actual cause seems to be originating down just past the firewall. Atleast when following the shaft to the firewall I seem to be getting closer to where it is coming from. The steering lock still works just fine. Could ball joints be causing this, even though it happens with small movements of the steering wheel with the car off?

Found the rubber boot on the engine side of the firewall is sticking on the steering column. Thank goodness that is all it was! Silicone spray will cure the problem.
