My 98 POS Blazer: This week's problem: Car won't start. Battery is new, plugs, wires are all new. Car has power, but doesn't turn over. You hear it try to start, but never fully turns at the end. Won't start in the rain or after it rained. What could be the problem? Starter? Wires??

could be the battery cables, I had a bad ground on mine and it wouldn't start, just make sure the cables are tight, and make sure that the plastic on the terminal end isn't stopping you from getting good connections. I just cut mine off.

this was happening to my buddies jetta...there was just corrosion on the terminals...take a wire brush to it and see if itll start, then let us know how it went

probably the starter. I don't think the alternator would make it not turn over unless the alternator didn't charge the battery, causing the battery to run out of juice.

yea it cant be the alternator because he said its a new battery, in which case the alternator hasnt even had a chance to try to charge it...seein how its never been started with it..anyways, id say its the starter

Id say starter also, the best alternator test is when the car is running disconect the battery if it stays running the alternator is good if it shuts of go to the part store and get a alternator, im sure most people know that though.

Ok I dont say starter... all you need to start the car... power, spark and FUEL. ARE YOU GETTING FUEL??? If not, FUEL PUMP. Thats my thought... if it cranks fine and no fuel... well, thats just my thought.

I think what Pat (hillbillyinohio) & Mike (MCas86) was trying to get to way back in the beginning was the contacts both at the battery and at the starter. If the terminals on the starter are corroded, you can get the same effect. My take on the original post is that the starter is engaging, but does not have enough umph to spin the motor over. You do have to check all of the main things, but you also need the motor to spin to start it.
