Im lookin for a good deep sound, but im not lookin to spend a whole lot on it. Ive heard a little bit about glasspack mufflers but I was wondering if any of you know anything about them. What are the pros and cons to them. And what other options would work if this isnt what im lookin for?

And lets try to use laymen's terms here

I had glasspacks on my Chevelle thru true duals and will never go back to them. The reason being simply this, they wear out rather quickly. Yeah they are cheap and they flow very well, but their sound deadening material is basically fiberglass stuffed into the space between the outside barrel and the inside perforated tube. As the glass gets blown out the tail pipe, they gradually get louder and louder, crackling more as well.

Now it has been quite a few years since I have ever done anything muffler wise, but my Chevelle has Thrush Turbo mufflers on it now and they have a nice deep rumble to them. But I'll let others that have done exhaust more recently comment on what you should get to attain the tone you require.

I figured it had to be too good to be true for the prices I found.

Had a full size V8 pick up before i got the blazer and i miss the sounds.

I know what you mean! A friend of mine has a Silverado 1500 with the 4.3L v6 in it and to listen to the exhaust he has on it, you wouldn't know it wasn't a v8. That is until I was behind him one night on the way to a fire call and we both were on it and he wasn't pulling away from me... Something was up and that was when I asked him what he had for a motor in it. I'll have to see what he has for mufflers next time I see him.

I personally like the sound of glasspacks for the very reason Swart gave for not likeling them. [:D] Then again when I was growing up, glass packs were it. I love teh pop and crackle noises you get when reving the engine. [:D]

Well how long does it take the fiberglass in the glasspack to start to break down?

For my Chevelle, alittle under 2 years.

And don't get me wrong, I loved the sound of the glass pack when I was 16, but by the time they started to wear out, it just started to agrevate me more than anything else. The drone inside at the 1 year mark was really getting annoying.

The bass from the thrush mufflers was amazing and the sound was just more refined. Who needs a stereo! I could actually set off the sensitive car alarms that many of my classmates and teachers had while in HS. Man was that ever a reason to get to school late!!!

u can break it in early if u get the glasspack hot and then go 2 the local car wash and spray cold water up ur tail pipe. i did it 2 my 02 f150 and it seemed 2 work really good. i had 2 do it 2 times tho

I have a glasspack on my blazer, it sounds good and everything, I like the crackle of it, but nothing like a chevelle with a small block. A v6 and a v8 have a huge difference in sound.

i used to have a glasspack on my camaro... recently switched over to a magnaflow.

i think if given the choice i'd go back to the glasspack. the magnaflow sounds nice but the glasspack is quieter. i wouldnt shy away from the glasspack mufflers, IMHO they dont deteriorate any faster than anything else in the exhaust system unless youre going stainle$$.

I just installed a cherry bomb glasspack on my blazer today. I like the crackle and poping sounds it makes, it has a good back flow note too. it was cheap, the muffler was $25ish and the brackets, piping, and everything else was about another $40. So far I love the sound, but then again it has only been a few hours. I was thinking about how long they last and I figured that if it goes in another 2 years, I can just go buy another one for $20, no big deal.

wish i could help..but as youve said, a 5.7 liter is alot different than the 4.3..... i love the sound of my dual cherry bombs. A plus to glasspacks is that they dont blow apart at the seams..mainly cuz they dont have any.. :D i bought my truck with custom exhaust on it..dont know the brand of the muffler but i know they were tiny little turbo mufflers and my cherrybombs sound sooo much better, anyway, back to the blowing apart...a friend and i were going fishing,, and offroading a bit, and all of a sudden somethin started rattlin...scared me to hell cuz i had juss put a new tranny in the truck and i almost crapped my pants haha :D ahh i'm not bein any help am i ..ahah but glasspacks are a good, cheap form of exhaust.

I'm with you on this also. I will never run glasspaks again either. I much prefer the turbo mufflers. I run Summit Turbos on my 86 F250 4x4 460. They have been on there for 5 years & still sound good.

That's what my stock blazer with a glass pack sounds like everything else is stock right now
