You cenrtainly need equal gears front & rear if you go 4x4... Why the urge of 4.11 gears? If you want rocket launches, consider replacing the stall converter with a higher rpm one...

if you're goin to change the rear gear ratio, you MUST change the front. i take it you are getting a used rear posi unit? if thats the case, then you can unbolt the ring gear off it and put your original one back on.

I have a 4x4 with posi (limited slip), but no 4.11 gears. (I have GT4 axle rear, 3,73 ratio (dup with 5 x 1) and G80 axel positraction, limited slip) Maybe you should shop around for one of these, or better, find and G80 optioned rear axle with your current ratio.
