Trying to find a used-enough-to-scrap-it vette here is kinda hard. There is a used car dealership in the next town that normally sells older vettes, GTO's, and all the other hot rod muscle cars. Maybe I'll talk to him and see if he can locate one. So, from what I read/understood in the article, all I really need is just the engine, drive shaft and larger rotors/brakes. It said that "it wasn't enough, so they pulled..." so I don't need the transmission, etc., right? If it is going to be one big ass overhaul, then I won't do it since it is by daily driver. But I'll look into it, maybe go to a mechanic and see what he says.

Just did some research...the LT4 engine was in a manual transmission of a 1996 vette ONLY. So much for that. I'm not looking at replacing my tranny. So I guess that I'll still talk to a mechanic and see what engine WILL fit my blazer. And I was SSSOOOO looking forward to a vette engine under my hood.

Good news! I talked to my brother today. He has a 283 small block V8 sitting in his apartment down in Phoenix. He's moving back home real soon. He said that I can take that block, bore it 80 over, making it approx. a 350. So, I'll do just that, only put on high performance parts on it and see if I can make her push 400 hp. I have a plan and all what's left is time, money, and more money. The only thing is, I've never rebuilt an engine before but luckily my bro has. So this rebuilding thing might take a while. Hopefully not too long. By the end of summer next year I should have mostly everything done including interior/exterior mods.

Yeehaa! That's more my style! Now I can have room to haul the family AND the power of my beloved Corvette!!!
On second thougth... nah, too much work... But a good idea!

01: There is not much special about the good ol smallblock V8 from GM. They're pretty much all the same. Since you're going to swap parts anyway, any GM V8 will do and you might as well start with a 350.
Only the add on parts (crank, cam, heads, intake/exhaust) make it a Corvette engine.

As far as the LT4 goes: Any LT1 can be transformed into an LT4 look alike. Main things to swap is the intake and cam.

Oh boy, if you start hotroddin a GM V8, the possibilities are endless...

(I used to have a '79 and '91 Corvette...)

Thanks for the info on the engine. I'll check it out and see what I can do. I've read about the similarities of the LT1 and the LT4 on the net. But that is a good idea about getting the cam, exhaust, etc. This engine building thing is probably going to take me a few years to do though.

I personaly would start out with a LT1 they are great motors and you can come across one for only about $1000 or so.
