Well, I just drove my new ZR2 1400 miles from New York to south Florida. I drove straight, non-stop (23.5 hours). Having many cars (2002 Z28 SS, 2006 Mustang GT, 1989 Corvette), this was my first truck. My impressions:

1. Very comfortable - actually, extremely comfortable. Driving position is great, seats are very comfortable (non-leather, power), and just a pleasure to drive long distances. My truck being a ZR-2, I was VERY surprised at this.

2. Handles smooth highway like a car, but bounces harsh on bumps - as expected from a truck. Steering is precise, very little road noise considering its large tires. Very easy to drive and actually fun on the interstate and easy to live with.

3. Fuel mileage is not good - not terrible, but not good. I averaged about 18 MPG at 70 MPH with cruise on. After 70 MPH, fuel mileage drops off very quickly. Overall, it's not very bad though. Makes me wonder why an Hummer H3 gets better fuel mileage though. :)

4. Has good low end power, but transmission likes to downshift a lot with the cruise control on when traversing upgrades on the highway. Good passing power when you dig deep into the throttle though. Engine runs very quiet. AC kicks ass!

5. I'm very pleased with the truck!

Before my drive, I had a full fluid service performed, and had my mechanic (also a good, trusted friend) check the ball joints, etc. No problems :)

Greg

I made a similar trip with my 93 last summer from Ontario to Nova Scotia. That's about an 1100 mile drive and I had no problems and was quite comfortable along the ride, even considering my sheer exhaustion, the fact that my veins were pumped full of caffeine, and I only slept a few hours on the road! I also agree that the mileage was sub-par and not what I expected for so much highway driving.
