I've been seeing questions about this lately so I'm deciding to post this up.

Big thanks to Shon at ROE for hosting this.

ooooo nice find

boomtruck97 -> RE: Determine The Right Guage Wire (2/4/2007 4:28:43 PM)

what if i have more power than displayed on the chart?

Multiple runs of 1/0, or step up to 2/0, 4/0.

So the longer the cable the higher Gauge you should use? I didnt know that.

longer lengths of wire equal more resistance. To counter act the resistance, a larger wire is used.

is it better to get a bigger gauge? just because u can?

hillbillyinOhio -> RE: Determine The Right Guage Wire (3/20/2008 7:21:10 PM)

always good to get bigger cable if you plan on upgrading in the future.  get as big as you can afford.

so for my amp do i go by the total watts or the rms

hillbillyinOhio -> RE: Determine The Right Guage Wire (7/19/2008 1:10:57 PM)

total rms of the system.

bobditts -> RE: Determine The Right Guage Wire (7/19/2008 1:23:23 PM)

you dont want to use the RMS when calculating for wire length, you want to use the total maximum.
