the hypertech stores your stock computer program hence the reason your vin shows. Ive used mine on diff s10's just so people could get an idea if its what they wanted to buy or not. if you put your truck back to the stock program then there is no reason swart cant use the programmer on his ride. once he programs it with his His vin will be stored.

heres an other thing guys if you go to the hyper tech web site and look at the part # it will tell you what it will work on i think it goes buy the 8th digit in your vin # also i bought one that said used 8th digit vin w if that helps!!! kevin in p.e.i canada

Ok.  To settle the Hypertech Power Programmer issue, I will help you.  When you buy the HPP brand new, it comes with the device and a program on the device.  When you plug it in under the dash, the program comes off the device into your truck's computer.  This "vin locks" the device so you can't program hundreds of cars with one device.  If you try to use the device on another truck when it's vin locked, it will not work.  You must revert the truck back to stock by putting the program back onto the HPP device.  It is a rip off that Hypertech wants $200 to change it back to stock.  I hope that helps.
