Just got a '91 S-10 Blazer for $300! Yes, it has many 'issues' which I will post in Gen. Tech Help. It has a lovely digital dash which was replaced a year ago, and works intermittently. Anyway, look for me in the "HELP" area. And I want to add that my huge dog LOVES this truck and dispite it's appearance I do too. My plan is to fix it up-right now it's pretty embarrassing pulling into the hospital parking lot. But this winter I'm thinking I'll be having the last laugh-bring on the SNOW!!!!

Welcome! I'm sure once the MI winter sets in, co-workers will be asking for you to pull them out of their parking spots at days end! Just make sure that you have a more than adaquate battery in that thing (atleast 700cca for harsh winters). That way you can jump start them too! Just remember to only charge a nominal fee to those people that you don't like too much, LOL!

Hey, thanks for the advice and the tech help! Gonna work on it tomorrow, and yes, I have a digital camera so if it comes to that. I'm also working on the body. The interior is immaculate-the exterior... not so good. I have pics, so if any of you think your Blazer is in sad shape... I come from an art background (and some sculpture), so you may cringe, but I've become quite good with fiberglass matte and resin. Oh, and don't forget about Bondo. I truly wish that I knew how to weld, so I'm doing it the cheapo way. Bought a body repair/paint manuel and learning by doing. I also have a vintage ('87) (HA) Volvo that I've done work on too. I don't think I'll attempt the painting myself though. My sister paints cars and motorcycles (she wants to paint ghost flames on it) (I said NO). I'll keep you posted on the progress..

Looks like we have the same taste in cars...I owned an '89 240 DL Volvo before this truck...and MY Blazer has some exterior issues as well. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome,
I spent about half my youth in Milwaukee. Mostly living in the area of Timerman Airport.
Congrats on the truck. I love the S10-Blazers, I have three of them.
Current project is a '87 my son drives and we take wheeling.
I'll check out the tech section and see what I can do to help ya.

Hey, do you think you could read my new post about the lower engine knock in Gen Tech? I love the truck-it's my first one, and now I truly understand why people are so into them. I'm just baffled as to what to do about the engine..

HEY! I never said anything about ghost flames!!! Cut me SOME slack. I said a custom paint job would make it look decent when its all done.

We were joking-I think. Talking about pimping it out. Actually I think we were gonna paint orange flames...?

ya, no orange flames either, something a little more subtle if your going to keep it, if your going to sell it I'd say "pimp" it out.

Look through the pics, there are some crazy paint jobs. Need something tasteful, but that shows your ability. I wasn't into anything too different before, but now I'm thinking --well not TOO vanilla. Such a quandry...I wish I'd paid more attention during my 3-D art classes too. I'd be an expert bondo-er by now. How about some sort of fade. Actually none of this matters if I can't get the engine thing remedied. No replies yet.

Okay, here is where anyone can post ideas about my upcoming paint job! Any ideas are welcome-doesn't mean we'll do them though!

Hey, fun to see your Blazer, TG! Mine is the same model, but white, with a sunroof and running boards that were added by the first two owners, same rims, luggage rack, and dust shield on the back but not the one you have in front. I have to wonder, on both of ours, why they put the dust shield on the back but no bug shield on the front of the hood. Mine has annoying little rusted chips where bugs have hit it and stuck or whatever.

I have to say mine looks better than yours, but I paid a lot more for it, too. Looking at your rust, mine seems pretty insigificant, so if you can fix yours, I'll be very inspired. I have an art background, too, but no sister who paints cars, and since I'm on the older and more conservative side, am more inclined to just rejuvenate the original paint job. I'm looking forward to hearing how your project goes. AK

Just FYI, the rear wind deflector was standard on the older blazers. The reason for it was to keep the rear window clean. With the squared off rearend on the older blazers, the dust/rain/etc would swirl up from under the vehicle and the rear window would get dirtier than dirty. I had the front bug deflector on my Bravada for awhile, but it never really worked. Sure, it kept crap off the very front of the hood, but it never really kept bugs off the windshield.

And, I've seen MUCH worse rust! I used to own an '85 S10 2.8L extended cab 4x4. I don't know what held on the fender flares because you could literally put your hand through the bedside and go from front to back of the wheelwell (around the wheelwell) and you wouldn't touch anything. LOL! That truck was bad! The mid to late 80's was a horrible time for automotive steel. It was when the US automakers decided to make a switch to Chinese made sheetmetal and this sheetmetal had A LOT of impurities. Just alittle history for you.

Thanks for the history. My '87 Volvo has a tiny bit of rust on it-and it's a WI and MI car. Guess those Swedes use good metal. I really can appreciate that now. And I hear you about not wanting to touch anything-I'm going to need a Tetanus shot after this job!

It sure helps to live in a place where they don't salt the roads in winter, as I'm assuming they might in Milwaukee. Here in Olympia, Washington, we don't get much snow or ice, so they don't salt, and our cars don't rust as much..... But when it does snow, most of us don't know how to drive in it! Having my first 4WD should be interesting, if it snows, that is. I will be asking for advice on that in another post someday......

Ah it's nothing! Well, it probably will scare the crap out of you... I'm going to be going through the snow for the first time with my Bravada this winter. It should be interesting with the fulltime all wheel drive. With my old '97 Ram 4x4, I wouldn't put it into 4wd until I had scared the crap out of my self atleast twice with sliding around corners or fish tailing down the road! I used to have SO much fun in that truck!... I hope I can find something to do with the awd...

I am soo looking forward to plowing through some snow banks!! My first car ever was a mint condition '82 AMC Spirit. My Dad put four-leaf sprins and mags on it. The damn thing was a TANK and it was rear wheel drive (which I actually prefer over front). I used to go nuts in every empty parking lot (or sometimes field) in the winter, OH and let's not forget about the lake (frozen of course)!! I have never once gotten stuck with the Volvo either. It was the lightweight Japanese cars that I had a problem with...
I am working hard on the Blazer body this weekend, and then it's time to paint-so any color suggestions? Remember grey and red interior...

Here in good 'ol NC, we don't get much snow. We usually have an ice storm about mid-January. It looks like snow, but damn if it ain't nothin but ice. This past January I was trying to go to work on the Blazer and she wasn't likin it. I had spun out twice before I got to the end of the street, so I said "screw this" and went back to the house and got the Supra. She don't like to warm up so I didn't wanna drive her, but turbo + rear wheel drive + ice = . Let's just say it was fun watching the looks on peoples faces as I passed them sideways

Talus, if you have grey and red interior, you should go simple and paint it silver with red flames...or just a simple silver would work too. I just like flames a lot, lol.

Oh, and as far as that rear window deflector goes, do any of you have any ideas on how to get the bases off and still keep the back glass? Me and my buddy Adam took the blade off, but the bases are still there because as far as we can tell, they're part of the hinges for that window

LoLo, without seeing how they attach first hand, you'd probably have to make up a new plate for the hinge and get shorter bolts... Again, I am just trying to visualize what it looks like. If I'm not mistaken, isn't the rear glass hinge on the outside? If it is, then you might have to have someone machine down the bases...

Could go dark and light silver, and flames on the tailgate, around the spare? I am having artistic block...
