Hey y'all. Bought an '84 blazer for $500. Looks like the same engine my old Safari used to have, and it runs, so I figured what the hell? But now I want to figure out how much power I can get out of it, what to do, etc. Point me in the right direction, please!

Thanks Nerve, I owe ya. I used to own Datsuns, and now I'm moving into this arena, so it's good to get help. I'm already thinking some forced induction...

www.truckperformance.com is another good site

I'd start with intake and exhaust first. It's probably the easiest to start with. Then go into the ignition, fuel management, internals, etc.

MAF? Okay guys, help me out here. I used to work on aircraft. MAF to me is a form used to write up a discrepency with the aircraft. What is it here in the "normal" world?

OH NO!!! I just found out why the guy wanted to give it to me for $500. Now it's for free. There's a cracked head and/or gasket AND a cracked exhaust manifold. But I was able to get a new head and a new mani for $75 from the local junk yards. Wish me luck fellas.

Also, if anyone has any practical experience with re-doing the headliner, please let me know ASAP, I haven't done it before, but I want to fix that tomorrow night.

Well, a couple things have changed. My '84 blazer suddenly changed into an '87. Also, there's TBI, which is cool I guess. Now my question for everyone is what's the difference between a K-5 and an S-10? I'd love to put something more than a little 2.8L in there too. Any sugguestions?

If I'm not mistaken, The K-5 is the older blazer often referred to as full size and the S-10 is based off of the S-10 platform (smaller).

you are correct as the frame is MUCH bigger not to mention simple dimensions of the boody/chassie....almost 95% of K-5's I have seen are raised were as it is a pain in the to do so with a s-10 the rear axle runs thru and over the leef's you would have to pull the axle flip it and add some serious suspension to it to make it the equivalent to a k-5.(yes I know i'm babbling..sorry)

Well dayum... so basically my truck is really not a truck, and my hopes of being a bad-ass redneck with a lifted truck are gone? At least I've still got my chew and my gun rack...

But seriously, can I at least put in a bigger engine? Such as the 350 sbc I've got lying on my garage floor that WAS supposed to go into a 240Z?

its also a biotch to lift an s-10 cause its got ifs, where a k5 has a solid front axle...much easier to lift, but a pain in the ass to drop. as for the 350 check out advanced adapters. they specialize in v8's for s 10's. they have everything you need to do the swap (brackets, radiators, adapters, etc)
