I'm an automotive technician at a Chevy dealer, but they just merged 4 dealerships, so now I'm seeing some Nissan, Buick, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles also. It's O.K. I would probably major in something else if I could do it again, but it's all I knew at the time and there was a baby on the way so....no regrets!

I think your job is awesome and a job that can make you very valuable in the working environment. Let alone, an automotive technician is a great trait to have.

I used to be a Mechanic both Civilian and Military, If I could do it again I would have waited for an opening at the MP school instead of taking a mechanic job. Its good to know but anyone with a mechnical mindset can do it, its not hard to learn. Its a job, it paid the bills but I love money too much to not make alot of it. And yes, always working on other peoples junk instead of my own kinda bored me out of the hobby, I just stick around for the technical data thats to be had on these forums. LastCoupe, are they making you get certified for the new makes ?

Yeah, I guess one thing you can say about my profession is that they won't be sending my job overseas! I am good at it too, I have very few repeat concerns ("come-backs) and in only 8 years, I am the highest paid flat rate tech in the shop. I'm not tryin' to brag, just trying to ensure I stay interested and not board to go looking for something else, I like to keep my feet planted. At least until my kids are grown.

Its good to know but anyone with a mechnical mindset can do it, its not hard to learn. I beg to differ, but In the 8 years I've been at this dealer there have been well over 50 techs in-and-out of there and MOST of them were NOT ANY GOOD at it at all. I agree that it's not hard to replace parts, but a parts changer does not a technician make. quote:
Its a job, it paid the bills but I love money too much to not make alot of it. Yes it's a job......It almost pays the bills (LOL)...........and believe me I've looked and I can't find any other job that I can make 55,000 a year without going back to college. Sorry for posting 2-in-a-row KYLE
