Got a couple inches of snow last night into today-no biggie right?

WRONG!  They closed all the schools in the area and I had the pleasure of driving my Wife to work since my j-o-b depends on school hours.

On the way back there was one accident on the opposite side of Route 30-a newer Pathfinder with no other cars around.  It appeared that he lost control and t-boned the concrete divider.  Then there was a Saturn Vue on the way in to Lancaster City with it's front bumper ripped off-once again no one else around, seemed like he lost control and hit something.

Fast forward to leaving the city to head back home and an older Jetta is passing me on the left, I was doing the speed limit of 40.  I see out of the corner of my eye a flash of red.  I look over and there he is, driving (or should I say sliding) nearly perpendicular to my truck with his right front bumper about 6 inches away from my driver door.  AHHHHHHH!!!

It appeared that he didn't really know how to drive too well and for that I'm glad.  I think he slammed on his brakes once he started to lose control which caused him to slide.  I think if he had tried to straighten it out he would've smacked right into me.

This is all after I just got off the phone with my buddy telling him I'd be there soon, as long as no one else hits me.  JEEZ!  I still have 6K left on the truck to pay and though he would've been completely at fault-it would be a hassle for the fix I'm sure.

Any other snow stories or close calls?

There's nothin there. Even up here we got more snow than that. Takes more than that to shut down schools  around here. Almost looks like you just got a dusting.

the sad part about "close calls" is....my blazer is at the point where if it gets hit really good...the insurance company totals it....that equals waaaaaaay more money for it than the might blaze is worth......I have more almost accidents in the ambulance than I do in my own personal vehicle...seems people are blind when it comes to lights and sirens....so if I were to have an accident....I hope it's a good one!

Hm.  Doesn't look like much.  We got a similar amount, but because of the cold AND the 40-50mph winds, they shut down the county this past Monday.  Lucky me, I had to direct traffic at an intersection due to a 8 car pile-up.  It took me 30 minutes to drive 4 miles!    Nothing like moving 10 feet only to wait for short bursts of visability!!

Hm.  Doesn't look like much.

Doesnt to me either.  Last week about this time we had a crap load of snow like maybe 12 inches or more and a lot of wind.  Everything was closed here, only reason I was at work is because I talk to people all over the country and just because we have snow here doesnt mean I can stay home.  I had no problems makeing it to work, I love 4wd I think as long as I live here I will never be without it.

When I went to visit my parents (75 miles from me) I was on an interstate that was closed for the last 3 days and only just opened.  There were many close calls I even felt the back end fish tail a little.  Some people are idots when the weather gets ****ty.  I think in all northern states they should require a winter driving portion of the drivers test.

Where I live now, schools shut down with only 5 - 6 inches of snow... and the busses stop running at -26*C...

Where I used to live, the busses NEVER shut down... and that's about 9 hours north of where I am now...

I always laugh when I heard the radio say "Heavy snowfall warning of 3 cm overnight"

Trust me, I thought it was silly to close schools for the 3 inches we got.  But seeing as so many people don't know how to drive in the snow in this area, it might've been for the wiser.  That last pic that shows the car that's covered now...THAT'S WHAT I WANT!!!

I'm originally from Maryland where they wouldn't worry much until the snow got above 5 or 6 inches. Since I moved down here to Huntsville, AL, we've only had one light dusting and they had 2 hour delayed openings and liberal leave policies. Trust me...you wouldn't want to be on the roads here with only a half- to an inch of snow. In their defense, they don't get a chance to practice (one snow in the 4 winters I've lived here), and there is absolutely no infrastructure to clean the roads. I don't think there's a snow plow or salt/sand truck within 50 miles of here.

In defense of regular people...

Don't you think it's common sense to drive slower and more careful when there's strange things on the road? lol Especially if it's something you're not used to...

Granted, a lot of common sense is thrown out the window when they get behind the wheel, but still...

Also ALOT of people think they become invincible behind the wheel of a suv.....especially if its a 4x4

On the news last week a 20 year old man was driving too fast in his Jeep....flipped it over the rail and rolled down a hill......RIP

Chevy lover- That first picture is awesome.  That reminds me of someone in HS that always drove half way up the snow pile in the parking lot with his old Chevy Pickup.  I always drive up the hill in the parking lot at my appartment the most I can, but I cant do as good as you.

That's funny....you see one snowflake here and they cancel school for 2 days. Because of the elevation we get sheets of ice really quickly...

i'm in north carolina and it snowed last night. its gettin down to 24 degrees F tonight. thats about as cold as i've seen it this time of year in years. heck thats almost as cold as it got this "winter". lol. "feet" of snow. i envy you. the most we got this winter was about 1/3 of an inch for a morning. i don't think i've ever seen more than about 4 inches except for once about 8 years ago in indiana. don't get me wrong florida looks nice and all but i heard about Buffalo, NY getting over 100 inches (or was it 10 feet eventually) and i really wanted to be there. i wouldnt know what to do with it, snow angels seem kinda dangerous with that much.

I was sitting on a traffic light here on route 177 and route 6. It was sowing like crazy. I stopped further back and luckly I did. I look right and left cause I had a flashing yellow light. I was going to go and then I saw an S10 pickup comiong down the hill to the right of me with his left blinker on. He was going a little fast and when he tried to turn, slide. his front was in line with my front. He missed me by about 2 inches and then smacked a curb and actually tilted the truck a little.
