4wd lowering questions

ok i have 2 questions, how much if a drop can i get from adjusting the stock keys?
and how low can i go before i have to worry about camber issues?

Why would you want too lower a 4 wheel drive truck ??? Low riders are for those guys that can't get it up. Think lift kit and large mud tires.

That's like asking why you would want a 20 year old, beat up truck that only gets 6 miles a gallon. It is painfully obvious that it is personal preference.

20 years old yes, beat up, well, the work truck is, but it is a working truck, and holds up better then alot of newer trucks. My 87 is in much better shape then quite a few much newer trucks. But I hear you. Nothing wrong with lowering a truck, just wouldn't do so to 4 wheel drive truck. 2 wheel drive models are easy enough too find, and much easier and cheaper too lower. Just like I wouldn't lift a 2 wheel drive truck and put on large mud tires. Would be kind of a waste of money. Why a 20 year old truck ??? Remember that 91 was the last year for the solid front axle GM's, and then only avalible in select models. (But they are very easy too modifie. Those weak 10 bolt half ton axles can be replaced with a set of 1 ton axles. Dana 60 up front, and 14 bolt FF out back is basically a bolt in. Small mods, but nothing too hard.)  Sure, IFS rides nice on the road, but not everyplace worth going to has a road. I'm sorry if some of y'all didn't get what I was saying. I like too joke around, didn't intend too hurt feelings.

2wd trucks are way cheaper than 4wd... seems odd to lower 4wd but mod what you got I guess

Go ahead and lower it if you want. I really prefer the lowered look on blazers unless your going all out on the lifting kit.

Yeah I like lowered blazers as well I just meant it would have been much cheaper to buy a 2wd and lower it rather than waste the 4wd, but heck, like I said, what do I know, maybe you got a good deal on the truck, could be a lot of things...

I think you should lift the passenger side, and lower the driver side.

BAGGED 4X4 4DR. yea why would you lower a 4x4? I have one except mine lays hump. "Lowriders are for boys who cant get it up!" That saying is gone and done, serious the lifted guys need a new one. Lowering a 4x4 is interesting, not everyone does it, actually a select few. Its a difficult task, NOT BOLT ON. If you are just lowering a 4x4 then just take out the bolts for the keys you will usually get about 3-4 inch drop. But you have to loosen up the torsion bars after the tension is off of them so bounce the truck around after the bolts are out. Then in the rear just put 3 inch blocks. If you run 4 in blocks you will smack the frame on the axle and the sway bar will rub through the shocks. Any questions just throw them at me.

I've got a 96 4x4 blazer and i wanna drop it. Something not everyone else dose and i've got a jecked up truck. How much money total in all are we talkin? Whese should you do other than just the droping. Hit me back THANKS

I'm dropping my truck in the next week or so. So far I'm doing a 2" drop all around because of my tire size. But I still have room to do the 3" drop... I ordered everything from summit racing because they sell the items for 10-20.00 cheaper. So far I have Belltech 2" drop blocks for the rear and 4 brand new Belltech Nitro Drop 2 shocks. All of those items came out to 180.00 shipped. My boy is going to do the drop on my truck and use the torsion key to lower the front 2". If you do plan on dropping your truck, def get new shocks.

What is the tire diameter Dave? I'm lowering mine too, If your tire diameter is the same as mine, I'll know I can go lower.

will the tires I have on my truck is 275/45/20... So I "think" 2" is the most I can go with changing to a 40 or 35 profile. But I will know better once the suspension is installed. I took measurements last night and it seems I can go lower. But I don't wanna assume anything until I take the truck on a test drive with the 2" drop.

Personally I would like to lower mine 2" all around, but am keeping it at stock for now. I think lowering it gives it a different presences about it. Namely because you can tell it sits lower, but everyone else is going to have to think if that is lowered or not

If you go on cardomain, there's a blue 4dr blazer with a 2" drop. You can def tell it's lowered because there is a small wheel gap with stock wheels.

ok so i have a 2001 4wd...if i do i a 3inch drop would i have problems later on w/ ball joints or drivetrain issues or anything at all??

Nothing wrong with a lowered 4x4... If I didn't play in the mud, I'd lower mine... It's nice to have the extra traction in the snow, especially if you don't have the ground clearance...


I wouldn't mind a custom air setup that lets me lower it a couple inches compared to stock, and can lift it a couple inches higher than stock...
