Ok so I finally found the issue that I was having with hessitation. Looking back over the past couple of vehicles that I have owned, the last 3 have had a plastic gas tank. Plastic tanks are much MUCH less prone to condensation. My Bravada has a steel tank and as a result of the amount of time it has been sitting, it had water in the gas. A couple of bottles of iso-heat and the problem is gone. On my rather spirited jaunt this past weekend while moving (80-85 mph with a loaded down vehicle over 65 miles of interstate), the truck averaged 19.7mpg over the door to door trip of 85 miles. I was in a hurry to beat the cable guy that was supposed to show up between 4 and 8 pm (but NEVER did show at all - grrr...).

I added air to my tires with the last full tank I used, and increased my mileage from 16 to 17 mpg, around town driving with just enough freeway to get from one part of town to another. '91 4.3 2dr 4WD S-10 Blazer, automatic, with overdrive, usually loaded up with stuff. I have gotten as much as 18 mpg under these conditions, so not sure what I'm doing differently. Still don't have quite as much air in tires as I'm supposed to, as it seems to give a rougher ride. But may try that next time.

There is a LOT to be said for running the proper tire inflation. I checked my tires before I left my old place to make sure that they were all running at 36psi (alittle higher than what the door says (32psi IIRC), but because of the added weight, I figured it was a good precaution. I had all of my electronics in there for that trip. My TV, stereo, speakers, both my workstations and a 21" Dell (sony) Trinitron monitor, my battery backups, and whatever other miscellaneous stuff would fit in amongst the rest of that stuff. I was surprised as all hell especially considering the fact that I was really hoofing it to try and meet the cable guy that never showed (GRRR!!!). Typically, the more air you've got in the tires, the lower the rolling resistance. I normally run a bit higher than what is stated on the doors for this reason. I always stay well under the tire manufacturers recommended pressures as to bar any troubles. Oh and I run only 87 octane fuel in the Bravada. The more expensive stuff isn't worth it. You don't gain enough mileage to make it worth the extra coin. Now my Bonneville on the other hand... That gets 93 octane everytime because of the supercharger.

I never go by the door psi... the Ford Explorer is a perfect example...but you are right, I always go a pound or two higher

Well, my door says 35 PSI and on my tires it says Max PSI should be 35. That seems weird to me. So if my tire gauge isn't perfectly accurate and I supposedly put in 35, and it is really a little more than 35, will I damage the tire? And this makes it pretty hard to account for any extra weight by putting in a little extra air. I guess I should call Discount Tires, where I got them, and ask them what the deal is. They are Kumho all-season touring tires. They weren't cheap by my standards, but certainly nothing special, and I thought they'd be OK since all I do is regular town and freeway driving. I don't remember if I told them I'd be loading up the Blazer with boxes of pottery and display shelves, which aren't super heavy, but are usually in there most of the year.
